NFT: Gin Drinkers: Need a recommendation (for a Gift)

Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 12/16/2017 3:22 pm
I don't know anything about Gin, but I want to buy a gift bottle for a co-worker as a token of appreciation.

Can anyone recommend a brand in the $25-35 range? Is the Botanist good? Unfortunately gin doesn't seem to be lending itself to the "gift package" category.
Tanqueray

or Bombay
Beefeater is my go-to for Gin

It's a fantastic Scottish Gin..I'd go for that.

I also am a fan of Plymouth Gin

You should be able to find it. It is more unique than Tangueray or Bombay but best part is that is the gin that Winston Churchill drank.
I usually go with Bombay Sapphire

But have been drinking Hendrick’s lately. Both are very good.
Hendrick's

If you want to give something really great. Might be a touch out of you price range (33/35) but it's great stuff.
If you're going to $35
BillT : 12/16/2017 3:40 pm : link
Then Hendrick's is a no brainer.

top end of your budget but much better than everything else in that range. Much better looking bottle too (doesn’t matter but as a gift I think it’s a nice touch).
Blue Coat (as in the Revolutionary Army)

Made the old fashioned way in a copper pot. Most distillers don't do it that way anymore. Easily better than a lot of gins that cost 2 or 3 times as much. Nice bottle as well, definitely presentable as a gift. Trust me on this one.
Tanqueray 10

Buy good tonic as part of your gift. No corn syrupy schweppes
lots of answers here

You said you wanted to gift something good, so go for the Hendricks. The Gin drinking recipient will like that best of the suggestions listed. Will probably like you that much more too.

If you have to go Schweppes, go Diet Schweppes as there's no corn syrup.

Mrs S is strictly Tanqueray and Fever Tree for what that's worth ...
Botanist is a BIG gin.

Great for Negronis. Not for the faint of heart.

An under the radar and well rounded gin that as a bartender I think you can use for anything from martinis to gin and tonics to funky craft cocktails like Aviations.
Its delicious, your recipient will never expect it, its at the price point...dont be stupid 😉 - ( New Window )
Bottle is cool too...looks like medicine.

I sell that here in the Boston area. Great botanical gin. Made with cucumber, lavender, sage, and lemon peel. Similar profile to Hendricks but more body to it. They also do a peppered gin which makes a killer bloody mary.

Your wife and I drink the same. You can also get naturally light Fever Tree. But usually, I drink it with Diet Schweppes
Gin isn't expensive

I wouldn't give any of the standard ones as gifts. Gins flavor is pretty diverse from bottle to bottle

Bar hill is a new gin to me. It's honey flavored.
I second getting a case of good tonic to pair

Nothing like a good Gin with some Fever Tree, Q tonic is solid for vodka tonics, but I personally am not much a fan of agave, so I prefer fever tree.

Ilike Bombay Dry (NOT Sapphrire) for my Martinis
