Now that I've managed to get both old and fat, I'm looking into lifestyle changes without completely eliminating some of the foods that I enjoy.
I've seen these fryers around for the past few years but just assumed they were the latest infomercial gimmick thing. Now I see where the name brand appliance folks are offering these, plus there are cookbooks on Amazon for them.
So BBI, any and all opinions welcome. Thanks.
It does allow you to make things otherwise requiring deep fat. We make a variety of spring rolls as well as other things (crab) in a won ton wrap.
Of course it works very well for chicken wings or fresh french fries, roasted potatoes (again w/o the oil).
However I would recommend the more pricey version sold by Phillips.
Be prepared to experiment.
since I'm getting old, but not yet fat, I haven't been willing to make the switch, but I'm close.
Also, I haven't looked at all the air fryers but I like to cook wings for a crowd, some sundays I'll make 20 - 30 pounds of wings and that will take me 4 batches at around 30 min each in my deep fryer (I make in advance and then flash fry before serving) that will take forever in most of the air fryers because they generally have smaller capacities.
I've made kale chips several times that came out perfectly too.
I don't eat breaded and fried foods often, but I've used it to recrsp breaded chicken as well as chicken coated in almond flour and both came out great.
The best thing I've used the air fryer for, though, is cookie dough. Crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside.
