Are You Rooting Against The Giants Today?

Jim in Tampa : 12/17/2017 10:19 am
Let's face it. Other than last year the Giants have had some pretty bad seasons of late. And as the losses piled up in a given year it seemed that BBI posters ended up in one of two camps...

Camp #1. Hope the Giants lose to get better draft position.

Camp #2. Root for the Giants to win no matter what (because nothing is guaranteed in the draft).

I was always in camp #2 and thought I would never under any circumstances root against the Giants.

But when the Eli-benching fiasco happened I gave myself permission for the first time to root AGAINST the Giants, telling myself that we needed to send Mara a message that a house cleaning was in order.

Now with a chance for the Giants to get a franchise QB hanging in the balance I am actively rooting against the Giants today...even though they are playing Philly.

I used to think that BBIers who rooted for the Giants to lose just get a better draft position were somehow not real Giants fans. But given the circumstances this year, I've changed my mind.

So I'm curious. How many of you who thought you would never, ever root against the Giants, have changed your mind, and are rooting for them to lose today?

Be honest!
They’re playing the Eagles..

I would not be upset if the Giants damaged their home field chances, because even without Wentz they can very well make a Super Bowl.

Also, I would not be upset with a loss.
Rooting for the Giants to finish 2-14
arniefez : 12/17/2017 10:25 am : link
is not rooting against them. Anyone who understands how the Giants operate knows it's in the best interests long term to finish this disaster of a season with no fools gold for the owners to use as excuses.
No

The Giants are a bad habit like smoking. Once they take the field I want them to WIN. I can't help it. I only think about the draft to console myself after another embarrassing loss.

If you're rooting for them to lose you're rooting AGAINST them...for today at least.

I understand the greater good issue, which is why I'm rooting for them to lose today, but please don't tell me that even though you want them to lose today but you're not actually rooting against them...because that doesn't make any sense.
I am not rooting against the Giants
gidiefor : Mod : 12/17/2017 10:32 am : link
but I don't believe they are capable of beating another NFL team right now -- and they would be hard-pressed to beat the Browns.

I'm not worried about their final record - they are going to lose the next three games no matter how I root
Not rooting against them.

Just want the game and season to be over and done with. Besides, we all know they're going lose.

not rooting against them, but in this game the Eagles have clinched the division and probably a bye and the Giants are playing for a draft pick.

It would be so apropos for the Eagles to lose, not harm them in the least, and the Giants miss out on their "carson wentz".

that said, no, not rooting for the Eagles.
I always root for the Giants
fkap : 12/17/2017 10:42 am : link
I want the best possible outcome to their season. With this craptacular circus show of a season, I don't believe that winning a game is going to carry over some winning aura to next year. I do believe that a higher draft position allows us more control in what we want to do in the draft.

Nothing the Eagles do (aside from winning today), including winning the superbowl, will affect our rebuild/plans

therefore, losing today, and the rest of the season, is the best possible outcome for the Giants. Therefore I am rooting FOR the Giants...to lose.
Lose the battle to win the war.
FStubbs : 12/17/2017 10:43 am : link
They need a loss today. A loss helps the team, a win hurts them. So I hope they lose.

I also hope it's close so they can show other teams how to stop the Eagles.

But it's the Eagles. The last thing the Giants have ever needed any help on it's losing to them. -_-
Absolutely!
Big Rick in FL : 12/17/2017 10:51 am : link
We do not need to lose draft position for a meaningless division game. I don't think we have the firepower to beat any team in the NFL right now. Especially if Collins isn't playing. Our defense will probably get torched.

Mixed feelings on this as I suspect you all have.

I want the Giants to do well which is hard to do without winning. I want the better draft choice. In the end I know who I root for has no impact on the outcome of the game. If they win I win, if they lose I win as a fan for the future. I think its wrong to judge other fans for what they choose to root for. I also think some Giants fans will die before next season and that would be a shame to not root for their team in these last games of their life. Even if somehow I knew who they were I could not judge them. If it makes them happy that the Giants lose, well that could be a good thing. I think it is best to just worry about your own ass and not care what anyone else thinks in this regard.
Always for a New York Giants W,

Want the best possible draft pick. Last week was perfect, they played hard, game was close til the 4th quarter and they lose. Same formula today would be great.
Same for every game.
Crispino : 12/17/2017 11:09 am : link
Rooting for Eli to do well, but for the team to lose. We need a rebuild and some high draft choices to do it with.
I'm a Giant's fan
bob_in_ec : 12/17/2017 11:13 am : link
Can't root against them but can't see them beating Philly today. I'd love for them to beat the Skins on New Year's Eve
The drop off from 2 to 4 or 5 in this draft is enormous
The_Boss : 12/17/2017 11:16 am : link
We currently are slotted in the 2 position. If you’re rooting for a meaningless win today that ultimately damages our chance at drafting Barkley, Rosen, or Darnold (should he come out) with all due respect, your NYG priorities are misguided. And should that happen, you shouldn’t complain on draft night when we get slotted 4th or 5th and the premium talents are getting selected before we’re on the clock.
Never rooting against.
Beezer : 12/17/2017 11:21 am : link

Beat the Eagles.

If we lose, there's a small silver lining.
Losing = winning...
bw in dc : 12/17/2017 11:25 am : link
at this point.

These are watershed moments at Jints Central.

You really need to secure the best possible draft slot. Winning any more games is beyond useless. The rest of the games should be treated as preseason games only. Thus, rooting for the team to win is one of the dumber things I’ve heard. Gee, we went 3-13 instead of 2-14. Merry Christmas.

Eli should be sent home early for the holidays and only Geno and Webb should get snaps....preferably Webb getting most.
No mixed feelings - I am rooting for the Giants to kill the Eagles

or

win and beat the fucking eagles
I want them to lose
Jay on the Island : 12/17/2017 11:28 am : link
It's quite the conundrum. I want them to lose but I won't watch the game because I can't actively root for them to lose to the eagles. This team needs that #2 pick.
I'll root for the Giants today.

I try to avoid judging people. If you want to wear a purple shirt and shave your chest, hey, whatever floats your boat. But rooting against the Giants when they’re playing the Iggles? In our house? With Eli starting? Hell, fucking no! No, I’m sorry fella’s, I just don’t understand how you could root against the Giants when they’re playing one of our most hated division foes. Today should be the day when the Giants try to turn the tide of putrid green pollution that’s been rolling over us for nearly a decade. These guys own us and that needs to stop today.

Fuck Philly. Fuck their fucking fuckity fucking knuckle dragging fans. Fuck the philandering Doug Peterson and his stupid fucking visor. Fuck Carson Wentz and Donavan McNabb and Randel Cunningham and “Jaws” and Brian “Dirty” Dawkins and Duece Staley and Fletcher Cox and every other fucking Iggle scum that ever wore that shitty green uniform.

Nothing would make me happier than to see the offense light up this Philthy defense. I would love to see our defense rock Foles with brutal bone crushing hits. Is it gonna happen? I don’t know. But I’m sure as shit not rooting for anything but a serious ass thrashing of the Philthy Dirty Birds. It should demanded of the Giants players to play with pride. Nothing less should be expected of the Giants fans.

Living in Philadelphia I never thought that could happen for an Eagles game. Fuck this season.
I never root against the Giants.

It doesn't matter who I root for, or who any of us root for. We don't affect the game. They will get the draft position they get. Who I'm rooting for means nothing to that. Do I want them to get a great player in the draft? Sure. Does being #2 instead of #4 help with that? Some. Do I want to see them beat the Eagles? C'mon man, it's the Eagles.
Oh, jeeze!

Nope. Never have, never will.
truebluelarry : 12/17/2017 12:51 pm : link
I think the lose to improve draft position is ridiculous. A higher draft choice guarantees nothing, other than a more expensive player. being a fan means rooting for your team on game day (to me anyway.)

The closest I came to rooting against the Giants was two weeks ago in Oakland. I couldn't do it, but my emotions watching that game were very conflicted.

I'd love to see a win over the Eagles today. I hate that team and am sick and tired of the Giants losing to them.
I rooted for the Giants

To get L. T. And then again to get Eli. Today I am rooting for the Giants to be in the bet possible position to get their next possible franchise quarterback.

No offense to the OP, but making judgment on the fandom of any other fan based on winning a game at the end of a 2-11 season, when it is obvious that having the second pick is better than having a higher pick, is being myopic.
The 'go team' stuff at 2-11 is so cute.

The day I sit in front of my TV and root against the Giants will be the first time, I can watch a game now and even though I am disappointed in the results, the after thought is that we are probably better off losing, but to root against them, never happen, I can't do that, when things get that bad, you don't watch. Watch another game, that is what I do.

I never root against the Giants crowd. We want the team to lose to get the better draft pick, helping them in the long run. Would you rather the Giants end up with the 5th pick and have to give up an enormous amount of valuable picks to get Eli's replacement? It makes no sense. This season has been brutal. Just keep losing and let us just pick the QB we want. This is nonsense. Winning this game accomplishes nothing. Philly is not winning the SB without Wentz.
