I want Bill O’Brien as next NYG HC-

Sean : 12/17/2017 12:01 pm
There are many rumblings he will be let go after the season which does surprise me. He always seemed to fit the personality as a Giant coach to me. He has Belichick ties & a strong personality.

1. He took over an impossible situation at PSU and did a solid job.

2. He has experience as a HC in the NFL while still being young.

3. He has gotten to the playoffs and has won a playoff game.

He checks off a lot of boxes if he’s fired.
Hmmm....are we so sure Houston will can him?
edavisiii : 12/17/2017 12:03 pm : link
He had them playing well with Watson. Their issues are not his fault.
I would love O’Brien here, I think he would excel in the Giants

Organization.

I would say he’s underperformed in Houston, but a lot of the issues there go beyond the head coach.

I don’t think Houston will get rid of him, though.
Houston would be crazy, but if they did I'd love O'Brien

I would be okay with that

I do think he is a good coach. It would fit the criteria the Mara's have claimed to prefer which is a former coach with something to prove. It'd be a mistake for Houston to fire him, but if they did, he'd certainly have something to prove.
It’s gaining steam

O'Brien doesn't get his bags packed in Houston without being the Giants HC if I'm Mara.
Have to think
Sammo85 : 12/17/2017 12:23 pm : link
O’Brien would have heavy interest in the Giants job. Gets to pick his QB, has a strong set of receivers and build out his offense.

I'm not crazy about hiring a HC before a GM
81_Great_Dane : 12/17/2017 12:24 pm : link
but O'Brien would be fine.
Hmmm . . . Irish surname.

O'Brien is the exact guy you want grooming the QB of the future.

If its HC first, its likely a GUARANTEE that Gettleman is the GM. He's likely the only one that would take the job and give in to a total rebuild where he doesn't get to pick his guy( unless of course its one in the same, and a rigged game).
don't get me wrong, I'd love him!
edavisiii : 12/17/2017 12:46 pm : link
I live and work 45 minutes from Gillette and always thought he did a great job in NE and he did a super job at Penn State. He had nothing and kept them competitive. His offense would be innovative and much better than what we have seen the last two years.
I wouldn't be surprised if Houston fires him
santacruzom : 12/17/2017 12:55 pm : link
a) Houston sucks as an organization

b) he expressed support when his players protested the owner
Doesn't seem to have much ground
Peppers : 12/17/2017 12:57 pm : link
Seems like reporters are just trying to stir something up.

Houston would be smart to give him and Watson another year together.
I wanted him after 2013

That's for sure, I'd be fine with that. He'd bring the 3-4 which would thrill me to no end.

I don't understand why Houston would fire him. But I'd certainly want him here if that were the case.
Is asking for coaches who already have jobs going to be a thing

I guess you misread my post and didn’t read the link I shared.
Bill O'B would bring great clarity to our QB picture ...

Just like he did in Houston ...LOL ... he s a good college coach and should go back there ... he has done nothing to impress me in Houston.

Apparently he doesn't get along with the GM. Considering that he's taken that Texans team nowhere and still hasn't come thru on that "QB Whisperer" label, I'm not sure what to think about O'Brien. They have given him a handful of QB prospects, which I am sure he helped select, and the only one he's had success with is the guy everyone thought was talented before he was drafted.
And if they hire Gettelman
Glover : 12/17/2017 6:49 pm : link
they would have an asshole head coach and an asshole GM. Awesome.

Yeah I am surprised he couldn't win a SB with star QB's like TJ Yates, Case Keenum, Tom Savage, Brock Osweiler, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, and Brandon Weeden. Look what he did with a real QB this season until Watson got hurt.
If they hired Bill O'Brien as HC
Jay on the Island : 12/17/2017 7:21 pm : link
I really hope they get picked for Hard Knocks. It would be the best hour of television to see him coach Eli Apple in practice.

Define nothing?? Division titles and playoff wins with hot steamed shit at qb is nothing? Every year Houston competed and won except this season.

I just hope and assume o'brien didn't push for osweiller in Houston.

I would love O'Brien to coach the Giants. And in regards to Hard Knocks, I believe you can't have a team on there that has a new head coach, IIRC.

Division was complete garbage though. The Texans were the most competent of a cluster of incompetence. Plus, as an offense-first head coach and a QB guy, he surely had a strong say in who the QB was. He can't get a pass on that.
Here's the thing many of you need to accept
djm : 12/17/2017 8:09 pm : link
A 40 year old parcells isn't walking through the door to rescue the Giants. Belichick isn't coming here. No big sexy named coach is really available unless you think cowher or Gruden is coming here. Not happening. It's going to be a "retread" or an unproven, young HC either from college or a rising asst coach from the NFL. Take your pick. Choose your poison but remember the Giants just failed miserably with a young upstart in mcadoo.

Retreads might seem uninspiring or boring but they win. They do deliver. Young unproven HCs tend to fail. Not all but many fail. And super bowl winning head coaches that go to new teams never win Super Bowls with the new team. Part of that is attributed to there not being many super bowl winning HCs moving to other teams to begin with but regardless it's the truth.

It's probably going to be a retread. Bill O'Brien knows the NFL game. He's won in the NFL despite never having a qb worth jack shit. And no, it wasn't his fault that Brock fucking osweiller sucked shit or tom savage got his head caved in after weeks of mediocre at best play. Coaches don't make bad qbs into great ones. Doesn't work that way.

I think some of the people's expectations around here are wacky but time will tell I guess.

So you’re saying he should receive a ton of credit for Watson then

Should he? Watson was well thought of before he was even drafted. And he performed like a star in his very first game, if I remember correctly. After being forced to sit behind an inferior player for the start of the year. I'm not sure how much O'Brien gets credit for given that he has not shown results with any of the other QBs.
I would be really happy with O'Brien

He's Irish so he's certainly a front runner if he's available.

And I'm not even in love with O'Brien, but who is he going up against? Where are all these can't miss candidates? Just because the Giants will have their pick of the litter doesn't mean most of the candidates are infallible. Plus, maybe we want the guy who hasn't won that much yet. When I heard Francesca say it i rolled my eyes at first but maybe he's right. Find a HC that knows what he's doing but is also still very hungry. That's the guy you want.
