There are many rumblings he will be let go after the season which does surprise me. He always seemed to fit the personality as a Giant coach to me. He has Belichick ties & a strong personality.
1. He took over an impossible situation at PSU and did a solid job.
2. He has experience as a HC in the NFL while still being young.
3. He has gotten to the playoffs and has won a playoff game.
He checks off a lot of boxes if he’s fired.
I would say he’s underperformed in Houston, but a lot of the issues there go beyond the head coach.
I don’t think Houston will get rid of him, though.

If its HC first, its likely a GUARANTEE that Gettleman is the GM. He's likely the only one that would take the job and give in to a total rebuild where he doesn't get to pick his guy( unless of course its one in the same, and a rigged game).
b) he expressed support when his players protested the owner
Houston would be smart to give him and Watson another year together.
Actually, it was reported he may be let go. I’d say it warrants a discussion.
Or Kubiak
I guess you misread my post and didn’t read the link I shared.
Apparently he doesn't get along with the GM. Considering that he's taken that Texans team nowhere and still hasn't come thru on that "QB Whisperer" label, I'm not sure what to think about O'Brien. They have given him a handful of QB prospects, which I am sure he helped select, and the only one he's had success with is the guy everyone thought was talented before he was drafted.
Yeah I am surprised he couldn't win a SB with star QB's like TJ Yates, Case Keenum, Tom Savage, Brock Osweiler, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, and Brandon Weeden. Look what he did with a real QB this season until Watson got hurt.
Define nothing?? Division titles and playoff wins with hot steamed shit at qb is nothing? Every year Houston competed and won except this season.
I just hope and assume o'brien didn't push for osweiller in Houston.
I would love O'Brien to coach the Giants. And in regards to Hard Knocks, I believe you can't have a team on there that has a new head coach, IIRC.

just no. He has done nothing.

Division was complete garbage though. The Texans were the most competent of a cluster of incompetence. Plus, as an offense-first head coach and a QB guy, he surely had a strong say in who the QB was. He can't get a pass on that.
Retreads might seem uninspiring or boring but they win. They do deliver. Young unproven HCs tend to fail. Not all but many fail. And super bowl winning head coaches that go to new teams never win Super Bowls with the new team. Part of that is attributed to there not being many super bowl winning HCs moving to other teams to begin with but regardless it's the truth.
It's probably going to be a retread. Bill O'Brien knows the NFL game. He's won in the NFL despite never having a qb worth jack shit. And no, it wasn't his fault that Brock fucking osweiller sucked shit or tom savage got his head caved in after weeks of mediocre at best play. Coaches don't make bad qbs into great ones. Doesn't work that way.
I think some of the people's expectations around here are wacky but time will tell I guess.

So you’re saying he should receive a ton of credit for Watson then

Well said. You put it in perspective better than I could have. I'm all for O'Brien IFFFF he gets shit canned.

Should he? Watson was well thought of before he was even drafted. And he performed like a star in his very first game, if I remember correctly. After being forced to sit behind an inferior player for the start of the year. I'm not sure how much O'Brien gets credit for given that he has not shown results with any of the other QBs.

A 40 year old parcells isn't walking through the door to rescue the Giants. Belichick isn't coming here. No big sexy named coach is really available unless you think cowher or Gruden is coming here. Not happening. It's going to be a "retread" or an unproven, young HC either from college or a rising asst coach from the NFL. Take your pick. Choose your poison but remember the Giants just failed miserably with a young upstart in mcadoo.

And I'm not even in love with O'Brien, but who is he going up against? Where are all these can't miss candidates? Just because the Giants will have their pick of the litter doesn't mean most of the candidates are infallible. Plus, maybe we want the guy who hasn't won that much yet. When I heard Francesca say it i rolled my eyes at first but maybe he's right. Find a HC that knows what he's doing but is also still very hungry. That's the guy you want.
