It sounds like Hurts isn't going to be under center for all of the offensive snaps tonight - Saban is going to use Tagovailoa as well in an attempt to boost the pass game.
I don't know how well this is going to work, but I've been talking about this kid all year. He has a fantastic skill set and I honestly think he's a better player than Hurts. He outplayed him in the White vs. Crimson game back in the spring.
He's a freshman, so he's obviously not in play in April - but he's a prospect to keep an eye on in general.
He's mobile, but he has a really impressive arm. He's made some Rodgers-esque cross-body throws on the run that have been pretty eye-opening.
Maybe it'll backfire in a big spot like this, maybe it'll work - I have no idea. Just something that'll be interesting to watch.
Playing against Clemson in a bowl game is obviously a much different animal than slinging it against Mercer with a 50 point lead. So I'm not sure how he'll perform.
But I thought it was noteworthy that Saban is going to try this here. Hurts has experience in these games, Tua doesn't. But I'm glad he's getting a shot in a game that matters.
Yeah, I feel similarly - I think the ceiling is higher with Tua, it's just risky because he's a freshman and just doesn't have the experience so he could make really costly mistakes.
Ridley is an excellent WR - they need to get him the football more. Hurts just isn't much of a passer. He can make throws but he's more of a threat with his feet.
Either way, they've got to ride Dame Harris and Big Bo more. Those two are very hard to stop and for whatever reason, they get away from the ground game in spots where they should be utilizing it. Daboll drives me nuts sometimes.
