PFT: McCarthy may be out in Green Bay if Russ Ball is new GM

With the Packers hiring a new G.M., the new G.M. will have to want to work with coach Mike McCarthy. On Thursday, McCarthy made it clear that he’ll have to want to work with the new G.M.

Bob McGinn, who covered the Packers for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and who now operates his own media outlet, suggests that the final configuration in the new front office will consist of Russ Ball as General Manager, and Brian Gutekunst as executive V.P. of football operations. Then, per McGinn, McCarthy will have to decide whether he wants to stay.

Putting it a different way (i.e., the way we’ve heard it), Ball and McCarthy don’t have a good relationship. It’s a topic that was addressed on Thursday’s PFT PM podcast, as I tried to digest and understand McCarthy’s remarks.

Didn’t they just sign him to an extension?

I think Flounder is a good coach

The Packers are presented as some sort of model organization, the NFC’s version of the Steelers or Patriots. I think that’s a complete farse. Their front office and fan base overrates the team’s talent base to a ridiculous degree. Their much hyped receivers turn mere mortal as soon as Rodgers goes out. So , although McCarthy has had his own share of playoff heartbreaks, evrn having them there was testimony to his ability.

The new knucklehead better reconsider .

Rodgers has been covering up a lot of problems on that football team for a while.
If McCarthy leaves Green Bay

Does McAdoo take over that team since they have the QB of his dreams?

This. Rodgers is the packers. Unless they strike gold again that team will collapse once he’s gone. Case and point, 2017 season.
GB would become the best job for a HC

because of Rodgers
Did a thread on McCarthy earlier in the week

He kept the entire offense employeed. McCarthy, McAdoo and the rest of them should pay him on the side for what he’s done to make them appear to be worthy coaches.

If I’m McCarthy, no way I leave. Who would hire me wihout Rogers to cover my ass?
He being Rodgers.
