10 Years Ago Today: Giants vs. Bucs 2007 Playoffs 1/6/08

Dave in Hoboken : 1/6/2018 12:39 pm
Pretty hard to believe the beginning of our magical 2007 playoff run began 10 years ago today. I'll be watching the game on DVD later today. Here's a link on Youtube for anyone interested:

Enjoy!

Lol. So it began ten years ago huh?

Let's see if I remember this correctly, if my mind is rusty. The Giants began a tear where, they had "no shot" to beat Tampa according to prognosticators and opposing team fans. Then they beat Tampa Bay: Oh they were overrated. No chance they beat Dallas, they were 0-2 vs them this season. Romo/T.O. will throw all over them.

I will continue the narrative timeline for the Cowboys game on the 10 year thread next week.

Ronde Barber "he can be had". Oops.
RW McQuarters

had a pretty decent game on special teams, defense if I remember correctly

Tampa Bay was having it's way with the Giants for about the 1st 10 minutes. Then the Giants remembered it was an AWAY game and they went on to destroy the Bucs.
I remember the next week beating dallas was like a Super Bowl

-2 yards total in the first quarter I think

Elis screen pass RD to Jacobs almost got picked by Brooks?
I remember feeling good just getting a playoff win
RobCrossRiver56 : 1/6/2018 1:53 pm : link
Still no idea of what was to come next. Amani Toomer had a big game.

After that win, I'd have been good with the Giants even if they lost in Green Bay.
Fantastic win!
That was a great birthday givt from my son and daughter-in-law

If I ever go to another game at Tampa Stadium, I will not sit in the southeast stands. Sunburn and hearing loss didn't go away for a week. Damn Cannon!
I think both fan bases thought they were going to win.

We came in with a better record even though we were the wildcard team. The worry was some how Jeff Garcia again beats us on an inferior team. Defense with 2 big INTS when we needed them.

One of my favorite Giants memories was after the game all the linemen running back over and standing on the benches screaming and going nuts for the crowd of people that filled in the first few rows. You could tell how much it really meant to them. They wanted to win and were now on their way. Onto Dallas next week!

He played well! Wilkerson the LB made a play or two and of course tank Daniels with the FF following halftime. Lovely day.

I remember a moment like it was yesterday -- last play before the end of the first quarter-- Tampa with the ball up 7 and they called a run, Giants called a run blitz and just blew the play up to bits and at that precise moment a confidence came over me. Giants eventually forced a punt and drove down for the tying TD and the rest was history. I swear that run blitz changed everything. You can just see the defense getting their sea legs at that moment.
This is the past

If you are happy about the past that will sit well with the Maras who think one SB every ten years or so , on average, is good enough with little or no playoffs in between. This is not the bar of Excellence. This is the bar of Mediocrity. Yes, we are not Cleveland but nor are we close to the Patriots or the Steelers who often do not have high first round picks but manage to keep winning anyway because they are obviously smarter about picking players no matter what draft position they have and understand that a roster needs to be BALANCED and not just load up on one side of the ball.

who a couple of years later became my wife and mother of our children. It was my first Giants game despite growing up in Queens. It was such a memorable and special moment not just as a fan but for my relationship with the wife. And yeah that fried turkey at the tailgate was everything. I haven’t cooked a bird any other way for Thanksgiving ever since.
Was there with my wife and daughter. Daughter had just turned 4.

Great memory. Bucs fans left in droves in 3rd quarter. It was Meadowlands south.

my two friends that I watched the game with, we went for a ride in my friend's car and listened to the WFAN post game show. It was unseasonably warm that day, so we had the windows down and were celebrating because we were so happy to finally have had experienced a playoff win for the first time with TC and Eli. It was pure euphoria. Little did we know what would happen over the next 4 weeks..
And what a BBI tailgate down in Tampa!

Recall seeing Eli build up more confidence again that game

from some low points a month or so earlier.

This is when he actually used pumpfakes to move defenses. And having Toomer and Plax actually take a step back to the ball like a professional WR would do.

memories...
The Dallas game the following week was glorious.
GiantsUA : 1/7/2018 8:49 am : link
I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and was in disbelief when Tony Romo threw the pick that ended the game.

I fell to my knees and was choked up. This was a salve for all the beat downs the Giants suffered at the hands of that repulsive franchise - 1970's, 1990's et.

Toomer in that secondary WR role is exactly what I miss the most about those old days. He was so reliable on third down and very rarely disaapointed in the clutch.
Watching the DVD right now
