Case Keenum may follow Pat Shurmur if he is hired by QB-needy team. What if this really happened? Case Keenum ends up our starter and they use the #2 pick on different position or trade out of it.
Thoughts on this? I'm definitely not sold on Case..
While I have been very impressed by Case's play this season, I can't say I'd love him joining Shurmur and being the franchise QB. It would be great if that were the case and we could use the #2 pick on something other than a QB (which could happen anyway). I know he's earned a good payday from some team based on his play this year, which could go up even higher with a strong playoff showing, but I can't say I'm sold on him being the guy.
I didn't come up with the scenario. I'm not a believer in it but here is the story. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21991953/case-keenum-join-pat-shurmur-minnesota-vikings-offensive-coordinator-hired-qb-needy-team
I don't know for sure what Case Keenum is... but he had a prolific college career (albeit at a small school) and then showed flashes as he bounced around a couple of dysfunctional teams in the NFL.
he wouldn't be the first QB to put it all together after a few years in the league. He is 29 years old and having a great year.
on the other side, he is not a big guy and doesn't have an arm that makes you say wow.
i guess it comes down to what they think of these college QBs and how many meaningful years they think Eli has left.
but if you can spend your draft resources elsewhere and get a 29 year old, smart capable QB who may be on the upswing... that would not be the worst thing in the world.
they should have traded their 2 for Garoppolo and then traded back back to draft Nelson or Fitzpatrick in the first. Signing Keenum would not solve anything.
I am of the b life else is not leaving. Keenums going to try to cash in. He wouldn't want a placeholder job and I think this was a fluke year for him.
Agreed. Keenum is basically enjoying the Ryan Fitzpatrick 2015 season for the Jets. A journeyman who is having an outlier of a great season. I still think the Giants are going with the 1993 scenario. Simms at QB one last year while Brown/Graham sat the bench and learned. Next year, Eli is the starter, and Rosen/Darnold + Webb sit the bench and watch and learn, getting ready to take over in 2019.

is not going to get a lot of money and Eli would save us money. That said it won't happen but you never know seeing if we drafted a QB with the second pick. They might just do Eli a solid if he doesn't want to be hear when the Giants take a QB.
if you look at it and the Giants can get something of value for Eli its not a bad plan. Extra picks would be a good thing. Take the QB and a stud RB and draft Olineman. If Casey plays its no big difference at this time of Eli's career.
Aqrizona is a Quarterback needy team. The Giants right now are not.

Just when you thought you have seen the last of the crazy posts Â
is the perfect example of the right QB and right skill set in the right scheme with enough talent and some coaching up can take you far...and doesn't have to be a superstars...just one that does his job.
For the Giants future they need to decide the kind of team they want( apparently Giants football big and powerful run game)..pick a HC who can lead that and pick a OC that can coach that..and all together get players that deliver that.
Simms was from QB powerhouse the mighty Morehead State and truly a serviceable QB they built a team around..coached up..and went from there.
Back to CK: he got in when all 4 stages were in place..here he'd be in at stage 1...2 at best...= FAIL.
Only way this happens is with Eli off the books.... Â
no one is saying Casey is the future its a stop cap for one season at best. It would be if you got good value in picks for Eli and if the Giants are taking a QB at 2. Why have Eli play one year for the Giants when you could get picks for him and bring in a guy like Casey to fill that short cap? It is not like Eli will play 4 years if we draft a QB in the first.
Passed on Andrew Luck and traded the first pick because the hot commodity Matt Flynn? Neither do I. I have to wonder what some people are thinking? First, Davis Webb is a bonafide guaranteed franchise qb because he has a strong arm and we haven't seen him yet on an NFL field, so he must be a star. Now a journeymen qb having a career year is the answer to transitioning from Eli Manning!
Guys, you have the second pick in the draft- a place the giants haven't been since 80s, and a draft that has two legitimate qb prospects and then you want to throw that away for case keenum and extra draft picks, who may never pan out?! There isn't a single franchise changing non-qb available in this draft, roll the dice and take what could be a top qb.
I think it’s either McDaniels or Wilks for us.
He has the #1 defense in the league and a much better running game than we have.

glad I don't have to make these tough decisions.
Mara said they dont want a rookie to start week 1
Are you out of your friggin mind?

I hope you’re right.
But the idea of spending your draft resources elsewhere and replacing Eli with a younger vet who has an upside has some appeal (to me, at least).
Could McD as HC entice Jimmy G to sign here instead of SF??

Just read the story. I stated I didn’t want or believe in it. It’s possible if Shurmur is hired.
