All indications remain Panthers DC Steve Wilks will meet with the Giants first, likely tomorrow, sources say. Cardinals remain eager to get a crack at him and could follow, with the Colts, Bears and Lions all interested as well. |
The big question is, if the Giants like him, do they even let him leave the building?
Wilks.
but perhaps that is just the media build up/chatter effect.
Bottom line: if they like him, get him... and let's start making real plans.
leaves the building. If not, then we basically were bidding against ourselves and I am not convinced at all he is the guy.
Also, I would assume this means NYG are Wilks' preference as I'm guessing he could line up his interview schedule any way he wanted to.
unless there is smoke with the BB news. Even if there is a 1-5% chance...dont you have to wait?
But I assume the giants have to have an idea right form BB agent, to at least hold off?
If we don't get the hold off, I think we have to move forward, right?
so you'd have to think they are going to be making their decision shortly after the Wilks interview before the rest of the league starts making their decisions.
Hard to imagine the Denver RB coach being a serious candidate. Perhaps they are lining him up for a potential OC hire?
Gettleman gets a long with him and thinks he's the One.
So Wilks, a one year coordinator, is now holding the power in an interview with the Giants, one of the most well respected organizations in all of sports, and the Giants have to worry about him "leaving the building"?
If he walked in with that attitude it would be the shortest interview that I ever conducted.
the Giants use, I would say it is almost certain he leaves the building, unless the Giants can coordinate Mara and Tisch being available.
and has multiple interviews already lined up?
And who the fuck said he was full of himself?
Man, some people on this site
doesn’t get offered the job by end of this week it makes McDaniels the apparent choice.

I would say if he isn't offered the job tomorrow then McDaniels is our new coach.

What about Shurmer?
if he leaves the building then I guess you can assume that they plan on hiring one of the patriots that they interviewed on Friday since they cant offer them a job until their season is done.
the Bears weren't all that interested afterall.
Some of these tweets really go well past reporting the news to idle speculation.

I think they can offer, just can't announce it.
if Wilks isn't hired tomorrow or Wednesday.
Here is the combined record of HC experience the Giants have interviewed so far or will interview. This includes interim stints for all.
Shurmur 10-23
McDaniels 11-17
Spags 11-41
Studesville 1-3
That's a combined coaching record of 33-84.
Removing Spags and Studesville, who I don't believe are serious candidates for the job, you are left with a combined record of 21-40.
Yay for experience!
Only McDaniels was at all close to respectability with a .500 record in his first season, before the wheels came off in year 2. I won't even get into whether or not he has personnel control because the Giants would never allow him that anyway.

My issue isn't experience it is the fact that he had the DC position for 1 season and that was following the previous DC who was given a HC job. How do we know what he "did" and "didn't" do as far as that defense went? They were very much the same unit from the previous season.

We don't need to know who did what. That's that interviews and phone calls are for. I'm sure Gettleman knows intimately what he did or didn't do.
Of the team
And brings in a REAL DC, and a GREAT OC
OTHERWISE, he will fail miserably.

He will certainly need an experinced OC IMO. He could probably get by with an DC that gets promoted to that role.
on Wednesday for an interview.
since he got here and if he is as impressive in person as by reputation, just hire him and get moving.
after in Mara's presser having said a hc with more experienced is preferrable this time around.
why the fuck would it be hilarious?
to hire Wilks as the HC. This was a done deal early on when they fired Reese and Ross. Think about it. Hope it works out. Just want a winner and to get ELI another SB.

Ironic, maybe. I don't know about you, but I for one would not find another disaster of a HC "hilarious".

Think about what, exactly? That you made up a bunch of bullshit in your mind and convinced yourself it was real? Maybe you should go back to calling Wilks a minority hire.
which would open the door for Spagnuolo to be a AHC and DC on the field. Like that too and it can work.
fuck are you babbling about??
Wilks wants to manage from the booth

Wilks was a DC in the booth, like many DC's are. Where do you come up with the shit he'd be a HC from the booth? At the KKK meetings?

Spagnuolo isn't staying on after interviewing the HC job.

Sounds logical except they have another interview scheduled. I would think they need to complete the interview process, you don't just "not let someone leave" when there are others in the pool.
