Josh McDaniels looking for GM/HC position?

Jolly Blue Giant : 1/8/2018 3:59 pm
I think that would rule him out for Giants.
Link - ( New Window )
He might be a good HC
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/8/2018 4:03 pm : link
his second time around, but handing him the keys to the castle, if you will, is a recipe for disaster.
You'd have to be an absolute fool to give it to him

.
Heís not getting it here
Sammo85 : 1/8/2018 4:06 pm : link
At least not right away. If heís willing to work with Gettleman and get the ship righted, he and Abrams might be a good combo, but both would need to learn a bit under Gettleman I think before they assume personnel powers respectively.

If heís insistent as part of any offer here from the Giants I think heíll lose consideration:

Well I guess he didnít learn his lesson in Denver afterall

If that is a requirement the Giants will pass. I think they would have only made that exception for Belichick. There is no way Gettleman would give
Final say to McDaniels.
I don't think that's what the article really says
Heisenberg : 1/8/2018 4:11 pm : link
I read it to mean McD wants to bring a pats FO guy with him. Where he wouldn't be "running the show" necessarily, but has his guy there.

That might also disqualify him from the Giants gig and that's cool with me, too.
when exactly did BB
Rocky369 : 1/8/2018 4:11 pm : link
get that permission? Surely not on day 1 from the Pats.

I've been very pro-McDaniels but I couldn't agree with this more. Luckily, the Giants wont.
Trying to figure out how he thinks
Rflairr : 1/8/2018 4:18 pm : link
he deserves this. Stay right there with BB then. I can't imagine any team giving him that.
Don't

know the validity of this report out there that he wants full control. If it's true and he does, that's another red flag for me. This guy had 1 HC job for 1.5 years - failed - and now he wants full control over a roster as well?

As I said on another thread
David B. : 1/8/2018 4:25 pm : link
The guy has a huge ego. But I doubt anyone's gonna give him GM power straight from OC, after he flamed out in his first try as a HC.

And he had full control in that first HC job, and arguably was worse at roster management than coaching.
Wow

Tom Brady might have to yell at him some more

If you are going to take the Colts job, you better ask for that kind of power.

As you saw with the career of Luck, the GM had a different idea of what players to surround him with than the coaching staff, leading to the mess they are in right now.

His own boss right now is essentially the de facto GM.

If you are going to take some of these lesser NFL jobs where instability and chaos has gone on, you want some control of the roster or be comfortable with who is running the show. If that organization has neither, than you better ask for that responsibility.
McDaniels a GM?

Think this is a

non starter. Gettleman has the background and proven experience for the GM position. This has already been decided and prior statements from DG indicate he is here for the long haul. The HC hire will tell us a lot. Think this is still an open contest or why the BS if Wilks is part of a prearranged package deal. Which it might be.
I donít know how you could read it any other way....

to give this guy full control.

It's a shame, because I think he could be a pretty good HC if he swallowed his pride.

Felicia.
The article mentions nothing of him looking for GM power other than
jlukes : 1/8/2018 5:17 pm : link
a faint allusion by Chris Simms about it regarding the Colts.

Gettleman is no spring chicken
allstarjim : 1/8/2018 5:18 pm : link
You can give him the coaching job and throw in a title of assistant GM with the promise of full control when Gettleman retires. And you only have to make good on the promise if you still want McDaniels around by then.
I expect it would depend where he goes
Reale01 : 1/8/2018 5:26 pm : link
Indy has been a shit show so he might want some say there. Gettleman is reasonably proven so it may be less important here.

Yeah, kind of a reach to make that assumption about the GM aspect.
Could it be Patricia and McDaniels are making the Giants their last

choice or even steering clear of the job to leave it open for Little Bill?
McDaniels
Sammo85 : 1/8/2018 6:06 pm : link
May not feel any urgency in taking a job figuring he can replace Belichick or wait til he and Caserio or Riddick can team up somewhere else.

My counter offer is a Junior G Man badge

Doubtful, Patricia is linked to Detroit, McDaniels has options with Colts and Giants.

I love this narrative that coaches will continue to make the same mistakes they've made in the past. Not to say that some people don't change, but as the coaching discussion has continued every bad decision or result is projected to a candidate's future if selected. Just as if the pipe dream of BB coming home to NY, I wouldn't be projecting multiple SBs at the same time I'd hope McDaniels has learned for the good and bad from his time running the show in Denver.
I think McDaniels can be a good HC
Section331 : 1/8/2018 9:42 pm : link
the 2nd time around, but seeing that he was the guy who thought it was a good idea to take Tim Tebow in the first round, Iím not sure Iíd want to give him unchecked decision-making power over personnel.
GM requirement is a stretch
GiantTuff1 : 1/8/2018 11:15 pm : link
Nothing appears solid in that regard at all.
I would think after the last fiasco
blueblood : 1/8/2018 11:27 pm : link
of trying to be a coach and GM he would learn..

Sounds familiar.
Think Gettleman has been the choice
TMS : 1/13/2018 10:51 am : link
from the beginning By Mara And Tisch. The fact that Abrams is staying as well leads me to think the front office is looking for a quick turnaround. WE were !!/5 two years ago so it is not out of the question looking at the playoff teams this year, and their previous records. Think ELI and Spags could be holdovers as well. Our upcoming high draft choices and getting our injured back could put us back in the mix fast hopefully. As GM McDaniels would have to do a complete overhaul including new staff, scouting etc. A complete rebuild is not what we want. MO.
Whole lot of nothing to the HC/GM story

What makes you think he could be a pretty good HC? Was it his tremendous performance in Denver, which rivaled McAdoo's in terms of rapid dumpster fire status? Or maybe it was when he took over for Shurmur as OC in St. Louis and guided the Rams to one of the worst offenses in modern NFL history?

McDaniels is all sizzle, no steak.

Hoping a person who has failed will somehow change to become successful is no different than hoping that one with one with no experience will be successful. In fact, it might even be more difficult to expect change, especially from someone who went running back to his comfort zone when things got tough.
