'Bama QB......

Doomster : 1/9/2018 7:32 am
Holy crap! How does a freshman that never started a game come in under all that pressure, and perform the way he did? Yes there was some luck involved......the fourth down td pass that was intended for someone else, that tied the game....but this looked like a guy with all the confidence in the world......

That third down play where he somehow escaped and converted that third down that led to Bama's first score, was unreal.....

But to make a perfect throw, in overtime no less, after a huge sack, you just can't write a script like that in a movie....I mean that was a perfect throw...it was gunned and he hit the guy in stride......and as my wife pointed out, he is a Lefty, to boot(she is also)...

And for every hero, in a game like this, there is a goat.....and for Georgia, it had to be Parrish, the CB....he was repeatedly beat in the second half.....
Heís a player for sure

the way he dropped back, bounced with confidence and delivered some strikes was extremely impressive. Looked like he had a great feel for the game.
he looked off the safety

Pretty mature kid who gave credit to his team and faith over himself.

Great pickup by Saban.
Really makes you wonder...

why there's all the issues with Eli and a crop of new receivers this year. If a true college freshman can play his first game in the National Championship, why is it so difficult to imagine a 13 year NFL veteran having a 'only' a few weeks to get into synch with his receivers. Yeah, the NFL is at a higher level, but isn't an NFL QB and receivers more capable. The whole "Eli's has to work with new receivers' argument doesn't pass the common sense test...
LOL..

Did you just use the words "common sense" and then try to compare the entry of a backup QB in the NCAA to how a NFL QB should play?

Fuck me.

First off, backup QB's have had single game success throughout time. Mainly because most of the prep work is done for the starter. This is like wondering why common sense didn't dictate that Frank Reich would be an elite QB because he led the Bills to an epic comeback over the Oilers.

The Giants offense was broken under McAdoo. The sooner people realize this, the better. They had a sub-par OL, play designs that didn't stretch the field, and they were literally playing 3 WR's at the end of the year who had never seen the field before in an NFL game.

If you have missed all that, there's probably no reason to even go through how important timing and route running is to a successful passing game.
BamaBlue, are you serious?

If you can't see the difference, no argument will convince you....

Alabama replaced the QB that Georgia game-planned around. We see that in NFL games sometimes.

Not to take anything away from that Tagovailoa. He might be a lot of fun to watch going forward.

Thanks man - fun game.

Bama had a lot of injuries this year. It's easy to fill the gaps when you have so many 5-star recruits standing on the sideline, but they lost some pretty good players. Even Fitzpatrick was playing hurt with a kidney issue and a bad wheel.

I'm really excited about next season though, because Tua is going to be really fun to watch.

He reminds me a lot of a lefty Russell Wilson.

Couple years from now, I think people will be talking about him as a top NFL QB prospect.

Credit to Jake Fromm too, though - he cooled down in the 2nd half, but still - for a freshman to play the way he did in that spot was still impressive. That kid will be a player too.
Kid's going to be better than both Rosen and Darnold
Csonka : 1/9/2018 9:34 am : link
Love the way the ball comes out of his hand.
They've been talking Tagovailoa up since he stepped on campus.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 1/9/2018 9:41 am : link
Putting him in the game was a sign of just how much confidence they had in him.

arcarsenal : 1/9/2018 9:41 am : link
Bama has been built on defense and running the football for what seems like forever now - they always have a tough defense, good RB's, and they usually have at least one really good WR (Ridley, Cooper, Julio Jones) but the QB position rarely sees a player like this.

Parker Wilson, AJ McCarron, Blake Sims, Jake Coker, Greg McElroy, Jalen Hurts... these guys were all solid but flawed. McCarron is the only guy there who has any shot at still playing QB in the NFL at this point.

So it's definitely different to see a kid like that under center.

Don't want to put too much stock in one half of football.. but when it's the 2nd half of the Natl. Title Game.. well, it carries some serious weight.
Tua is not a surprise for many
mdc1 : 1/9/2018 9:42 am : link
that watch plenty of their games. He has come in a few clean-up spots or other reasons and he has impressed and made plays. I think Saban has not put in him in more because its Jalen's job to lose and he may have done that last night, at least the job will be up for grabs next season. They keyword is "we lost our identity in that Auburn game". and Jalen did not seem to raise his game on needed throws. Tua is a slight risk for Saban give that first interception early on, but the output in the throwing game was too much for Georgia to stop along with the Tide running game. Can't do both and they have a great defense.

Physically for sure...Tua seems more zen personality wise...

But that is a very interesting comparison...

I don't know. That's the first thing that always comes to my mind too whenever an athlete credits their performance to god. Like god cares how well the kid plays or who wins the game. Always strikes me as arrogant and presumptious - as if the players you beat just weren't good enough christians to win.

Aside from only being 6'1", I think you have to admit there is a lot to like with Tags. Both UCLA and USC wanted him as the heir apparent to Rosen and Darnold...

Maybe it's just weird watching a lefty QB but he looked to me to need a lot work on mechanics. I think it's extremely premature to project him as better than both Rosen and Darnold. I believe Rosen will be an elite QB in the NFL, right up there with Brady, Peyton, and Rodgers when all is said and done.

Giantslifer : 1/9/2018 2:11 pm : link
Eli restructures contract. Giants trade down to get as many OL/DL/LB over next 2 years. If Webb works out Great!!
If not, Giants have spent 2 years developing OL/DL/LB.
Trade whatever is necessary to acquire this QB.
Has a great touch and is built like a LB

I think his mechanics are fairly advanced for his age. That's a very quick, compact delivery Tags has. Not a lot of wasted motion and can throw with pace. And he looks to have good pocket sense...For someone like you who really likes the nuances of QB play, I think you need to keep watching this guy.
