NFT: Knicks Chat: Sessions likely waived

DanMetroMan : 1/9/2018 7:54 am
-Expectation is it Sessions will be waived to add Burke

-Hornacek claims all 4 centers will now play, people are taking it to imply Willy is on the block, Willy has implied he's open to playing somewhere else if he won't play here

-Trade interest in KOQ

-Such a Beasley quote "“One hundred percent — not 100 percent [sure], but I’m definitely hoping [Monday] to get up some shots,” Beasley said."

-Berman thinks Dotson is being shopped as well

(I'll be furious if they deal Willy/Dotson with an eye toward help for this season/playoff push)

Around the league-
Sabonis 17, 10 and 3
RHJ 14, 17, 5 and 2 (dayum) really nice find by the Nets, he's an improved 3 ball away from... watch out
Dinwiddle 31 and 8
Markkanen 16 and 8
Valentine 19, 8 and 5
Dunn 19, 8 and 4
WCS 22 and 9
Fox 11, 10 and 4
Skal 6 and 8
Jokic 22, 12, 11
Lyles 21, 5, 3 and 3 (kid can play)
Lou Williams, 34, 3, 4... has become a legit top level scorer
Mirotic to Jazz

Why wouldn't the Bulls

extend Mirotic? Markkenen, Dunn (who is much improved), LeVine Mirotic, 2018 1st isn't the worst start to a rebulid.

Supposedly he wants out. He sounds like a dickhead if you read between the lines from teammates.

Trade value is probably as high as it will ever be. Him and Markkenen play the same position very similarly. Tough to have them both on the floor at the same time because Mirotic cannot defend the 3 or 5, neither can Markkenen. Plus it seems he wants out, and trading him helps the tank process. Jazz seems to be a great spot for him.
Fair points on Mirotic

Dan and Stinger. I guess I wonder what Utah would give Chicago. I can't imagine them moving their first round pick.

Bulls would be smart to pick up his option. It would add to his trade value and would stop him from being able to choose his destination.

because he's on a 1+1 deal, I think Mirotic actually has a no-trade. My question is...does the no-trade vanish once you pick up the team option? Once again, the NBA CBA is ridiculous....
Conflicted about Hernangomez
EmpireWF : 1/9/2018 11:07 am : link
How could he go from the future center of the team to a guy who can't even get into the rotation? It's a big red flag, is his defense THAT bad? Has he not improved at all in practice since the start of the season?

I'd rather trade KOQ, get WH into the rotation for the second half of the season and see where you're at this offseason. However, if the best haul they can get back is for WH, I'd understand why they move him.

Mirotic can block any trade HOWEVER if the Bulls pick up his option he loses that right. So if I'm the Bulls I'm picking it up. 1/2 of Mirotic can only be worth so much (especially when he can dictate his destination), 1.5 years should = solid value.

Important to remember the people making this distinction are Jeff Hornacek and Kurt Rambis. It's not as if proven excellent coaches are making the call. Would a Pop or Coach Bud etc decide Willy can't play? No clue but I'm not taking Hornacek's view as gospel. Hornacek himself 1. Asked for a defensive coach in Phoenix and 2. Did again when he got here so it's not as if even Hornacek pretends to be a defensive dynamo.
Lets be fair here.
Keith : 1/9/2018 11:26 am : link
The goal is to win coming into the season and Kanter and KOQ were giving us good minutes. Why would Willy play over them? Neither of those guys deserves to lose minutes. Now that we appear to be shifting towards a sell off, it would be prudent to get rid of those guys and play Willy big minutes. Lets see how it unfolds.

a problem here. In other words, I don't see this as ruining or wasting WHs value. If they are smart and I believe they are, they are simply:

1) Projecting that KOQ will opt out
2) taking of advantage of KOQ playing well by showcasing him in hopes of gaining a young asset via trade
3) once he is traded, WH sees a similar role as last year

Remember, a key aspect of WHs value is that he is on a great contract (2 more years at 1.5mm per).

Tim Hardaway Jr. was a full participant in practice today. Michael Beasley (ankle) was limited in practice and is questionable for tomorrow.

He's obviously opting out. There is absolutely no reason for him not to.
Yep, KOQ is a goner at season's end.
bceagle05 : 1/9/2018 12:40 pm : link
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on perspective), we're hovering around .500 long enough to justify keeping him around for a playoff push.

Kanter recently said he wants to retire a Knick. I know guys always say the right thing, but I think he means it.
I def think Kanter wants to be in NY.
Keith : 1/9/2018 12:42 pm : link
That being said, it's just bad timing. Lets trade him, let him opt in for next year and then we will sign him in 2020! See you in a few Enes.

So, we agree. We showcase him, see what the trade market will yield and after he is dealt, WH will assume his role.
This is the 2nd time that the Knicks have had an opportunity
JustaDiscussion : 1/9/2018 2:14 pm : link
to open up a roster spot by trading for future assets this year, but instead are leaning towards waiving a player. It implies to me that they want to keep this team together as is. Either that or all of the other teams are low balling them because they are the Knicks.
Seems to me that they are waiting for deals closer to the deadline.
Heisenberg : 1/9/2018 2:54 pm : link
when the market for trades is hotter.

Other teams are not just gonna help the Knicks create a roster spot so sure they are lowballing.

They didn't want Burke to get to the showcase, so they are doing something now. I suspect we will see lots of OQuinn and WHG until the deadline as that's where the depth chart needs to be thinned.
