OK Question - Maybe I missed it

MotownGIANTS : 1/9/2018 9:21 am
But has it been posted/discussed/announced/etc whether we are going all in on Eli making a final run here or is the season just a "victory" lap for his NYG career?

in Eli's corner, but I think he's hedged just enough (in a positive way) to take a really close look at what's what before-during-after the draft. I don't recall anything other than speculation.
It's been and will continue to be beaten for the next few months

Eli owns a NTC with two years remaining on his deal. Unless they find a proper trade Eli and NYG will prefer, then it would seem they'll try to load up as best they can, potentially draft his successor at #2, and let the chips fall where they may in 2018.
There is no final run.

He's either playing here or he isn't. I could care less whether Eli gets one more, I only care about the Giants next one. If Eli is here, fantastic. Does Eli improve the Giants chances to make the playoffs? - not so sure anymore, but I don't think he hurts it.

IMHO, this team is not as bad as people think. Fix the oline; get a reliable receiver opposite OBJ; tune up the defense; get a HC with OC and DC that know WTF they are doing, which to me was the biggest failure last year along with injuries.

It will take only marginal improvements to the oline to improve the offense. Look around the league at lines. YOu don't need a perfect line to succeed.
I don't see how these are mutually exclusive ideas

No matter who the QB is the team still needs to fill the other holes. Why is it one or the other. It could/should be both. Draft a QB in the first AND rebuild the OL in FA and the draft. It's not like the new QB will not need an OL.
why would you think there would be any kind of decision

Everybody thinks the Giants

are going to make a big splash in FA, I think Giants will have to overpay because I don’t see many free agents wanting to come to them because of all the uncertainty......I wonder what everybody’s thoughts are on that...

What uncertainty? By the time FA rolls around the Giants will have their coaching staff ready to go. They also have a 2 time SB winning QB under contract, the 2nd pick in the draft and a core of talent. This is also one of the staple organizations in the biggest media market. FA's will want to be here.

What uncertainty? The HC and coordinators will be in place by March, as will most of the position coaches. They will have a direction. Players go for money 1st.

Yeah maybe some older FA will look to try and go to a team likely in the hunt, those are not the guys the Giants will be looking for signing.

It’s a legitimate point. Some players the Giants were pursuing in ‘16 decided to either stay home or go elsewhere. It’s not a lock they’ll get whomever they want even if they back up the brinks truck.
If Eli stays, and I think he will, I hope he helps put them

in a more cap friendly situation. Not sure how that's done but I think it needs to be a conversation with Eli.

I agree we could make a run next yr with an OL 1st and foremost and tweaks on D and add another WR outside and Shep in the slot. But we also need a better RB...we have to mortgage the future a bit ... BUT with JPP and Eli coming off the books in 2 yrs it will balance out. Though Odell is about to $$$$ up big time.
Uncertainty will be gone. Many holes to fill

DG’s strength or one of them is to find lower priced FA’s that can contribute. However you slice it, we need to improve about 10 positions amongst full time or significant playing time players. Easily can see 4-5 on D and 5-6 on O. Unless we trade around and acquire multiple draft picks they need to sign at least 5-6 FA’s including any of our own we choose to resign, such as Kennard. With a solid GM, a coach that he was involved with choosing, a veteran SB winning QB and / or a highly regarded drafted qb, the Giants are a very attractive place to play. You know barring some unforeseen circumstance that they will give the new front office plenty of time and leeway. Of course it will come down to primarily money, but also the opportunity to play
Agree with sec 125

If Eli is here and he makes another run while we develop a QB or two,, that is fine, even if one of them is our second pick in this draft. Whatever is best for the team is all that matters, pleasing Eli is not the top priority. I would be happy to see him get treated good, I like Eli, but I want a QB for the future, whether we get it with the 2nd pick, trade back and get it with the 8th pick, turns out to be Webb, or we trade back multiple times, adding multiple 1st and 2nd round picks, and turn that into a QB from next years draft, I don't care how, but I want the QB for the future here, that to me is the top priority, not anything else, even if we did sacrifice a season or two and ended up trading Eli.
