Match Game 1983 vs 2018

Spider56 : 1/9/2018 12:56 pm
6 QBs projected to go in the 1st round ... match them up and we'll look back in 5 years. My view

Elway. : Rudolph. (Me thinks he turns out to be the best of the bunch)
Marino. : Darnold
Kelly. : Allen

O'Brien. : Rosen
Blackledge : Mayfield
Eason : Jackson

Elway was a slam-dunk #1 pick

Regardless of whether you think Rudolph will become a great NFL QB, he's a bad comparison to Elway because absolutely no one views him the way Elway was viewed in '83.

From a draft perspective, I agree with your point. I was thinking more in terms of how they they'll turn out.
Fair enough

Gene Rayburn

He wasn't in that draft class

but I think Lamar Jackson is more like Marlin Briscoe. The big difference being I think Jackson will get more of a chance at QB. I think in Briscoe's day the prejudice against a black man playing QB was just too much for everybody.
1983 6th round Redskins' selection

Babe Laufenberg = Tanner Lee (Nebraska)

Only because your list was too top-heavy and you took the easy way out. Go deeper like this...

Reggie Collier (5th Round Cowboys) = Ryan Finley, NC State
Jeff Christiansen (5th round bengals) = Kenny Hill, TCU
Tom Ramsey (10th round Patriots) = Anu Solomon, Baylor
The skinny

Are the only ones who think he'll turn out to have a career like Elway's.

He's generally regarded as the 5th or 6th best QB of the draft.
We need to stop comparing qbs to elway and Marino
