Matt Patricia: Belichicks Protege

Brown Recluse : 1/10/2018 10:09 am
I don't know much about this guy. And for anyone else who'd like a little insight into what kind of coach he is and how well respected he is among his players and even Bill, this is a good little article.

Quote:

“I always refer to Bill as a genius. I see that with Patricia, too,” Spikes said. “That’s his little protégé. He’s next in line. If Bill were to ever call it quits—who knows when that’s going to be—Patricia would be the perfect guy to step in.”

Quote:

Belichick’s former assistants haven’t had a lot of success doing that before, but, in this case I think Patricia is different, because he seems strong-willed enough to take Belichick’s methods and apply them in his own way. The way Spikes described it to me, Patricia wasn’t afraid to stand up to Belichick when he had conviction in something.

Quote:

“He’s definitely a well-rounded individual. He’s someone I aspire to be, as a man.”

Quote:

That’s another quality that separates Patricia from some of Belichick’s other protégés: his ability to take serviceable players like Spikes and work them into an effective unit. The Pats have finished in the top 10 in scoring defense in each of Patricia’s six years as defensive coordinator, including two straight finishes in the top five now. “There’s new guys in there, different guys on the field [every year], and it doesn’t matter,” Spikes says. “It’s coaching.”

I know this doesn't matter one bit, but I just watched a video of Patricia speaking and it was the first time hearing him talk. Was not expecting this voice...

Working with them all day, he sounds like an engineer. Given his background, it makes sense.
Careful...

Gatorade Dunk may personally attack you for voicing your positive opinion of Patricia on a Giants forum!

how excited are you right now?
Patricia very well spoken and seems like a very authentic person
GiantTuff1 : 1/10/2018 10:38 am : link
and comfortable with himself... that to me is a relatable guy, and he has the mental chops to X and O our way to victory...

I'm quickly becoming a fan.
Seems to be more personable

than Belichick. Of course that doesn’t take much,
He comes across well

In interviews and clearly has done good work after losing star after star on defense but I really thought his Goodell t shirt antics made him look tone deaf and childish. I mean I agree that Goodell is a complete clown but I would not think publicly displaying it is wise. He is a very interesting and un Giant like pick though.
does he own a suit?

Always felt he reminded me of the guy from the hangover

But the delivery of his words seem genuine. He looks fairly comfortable in front of the media.
I can't remember
Glover : 1/10/2018 11:19 am : link
ever seeing him flipping out or melting down on the sidelines. Not very demonstrative at all really, but then again, neither was McAdoo.
Wow

Has he hit puberty yet?

But he seems very intelligent and well-spoken.
George Young used to say iirc

No, I save that for posters who call him "Matty P" and do nothing but complain about every draft pick every year. I actually was in favor of Patricia back in 2016, believe it or not.

He doesn't exactly command the room - which is what Gettleman says he looks for

Mostly true, except in Patricia's case he really could have been a rocket scientist.
