WEEI in Boston saying that the Lions are keeping their

OC. This may have been the deal breaker for Patricia. They are not saying where there information is coming from.
Or Perhaps they

had that convo with one of the guys interviewed and they felt offensive continuity was important...

I heard that one of the reasons the Lions
Section331 : 1/10/2018 3:08 pm : link
have Patricia as the front runner is that he agreed to keep the offensive staff in place. It is certainly possible he just said that to appease Detroit ownership.
Luv dat Jim Bob !

If I'm hired to be HC,

I want to have full control over my staff. I might choose to keep people in place but I want it to be my choice. I don't like being told "You're the head coach, but here's your offense staff."
If they want Patricia bad enough

and by all indications they do, they'll give him ultimate say. But it is clear their first two choices (Patricia then Vrabel) are defensive guys and it makes the most sense to keep one of the better Offenses in the league in tact. Also, Patricia and Bob Quinn have a very good relationship. I'm sure he'll give him the opportunity to find another OC if it doesn't work out.

I call bullshit

Can't see Patricia agreeing to keep any staff, without putting them through the same hiring process that Belichick placed on himself , and the rest of Belichick's staff.

How does he know he can trust them and handle the rigors and higher standards, that I'm sure he'll want his staff to possess, just like they did in NE.

That's the blueprint I'm sure he'll go by, trying to achieve what worked so well for New England all his years under Belichick's tutelage.

So yeah, I call bullshit on keeping a staff he knows very little about and can't hand pick.

That was in response to section331's post

It's one of 32 jobs in the world. For a first timer, it's very hard to turn down an opportunity like that. You never know if you'll get another chance.

Even more of a reason to pick your own staff. It's a unforgiving job. If you fail you might never get the shot again.
Would you like to have someone you didn't pick decide your faith?
I think having demands on who's on staff as a first time HC
ChaChing : 1/10/2018 11:04 pm : link
would lead to you dropping down if not off the candidate list

I haven't researched but doubt there's many instances where a first time HC got to choose OC / DC, if even position coaches. A FO might listen but I doubt you can insist. Even a Patricia given he's about as successful as you can be at coordinator. I doubt any of these - Wilks, Patricia, McDaniels get much say. Someone like Shurmur or Schwartz might but even they might not depending on their most recent results & the new team's FO

Only guys that could are BB, obv Gruden, maybe a Saban (that too may not be the best team option, but may be a dealbreaker for HIM), those types. I dont see how any other candidate could walk in with that kind of expectation
And to be clear
ChaChing : 1/10/2018 11:09 pm : link
that's not to say the new HC wouldn't have any input in the discussion once hired, esp for any open positions. But that's far different than making staffing demands / requesting the team fires existing coaches as a first time HC candidate at the interview
