Had a question in regards to gyms in NYC.
I’m usually at the gym 5 days a week, being in my early 30s, it is where I meet most people since I am not a drinker.
Anyway, I currently go to Lifetime Fitness but they are not close by to me in the city.
I’ve got my choice of 3 gyms nearby:
-92nd St Y
-NYSC
-Equinox
I’ve been told Equinox, if I can afford it, would be the place to go.
It’s pricey ($240 a month) but there is no initiation fee.
NYSC is only $90 but it got really bad reviews.
92nd Y I heard is more for elders.
I can splurge on the gym, since I go there so often, but just wanted to make sure I’m not being a sucker and if equinox really is worth it over NYSC/Y.
But, from 2009-2012 anyway, i wasnt paying close to those rates for Equinox. I think it was $125 or so... company rate. I'm surprised you cant do better.
"Meeting people at the gym" is weird by the way.
I think the $240 is for a "passport" deal where you can go to different gyms.
Equinox is by far the best in the area.
Well, you worked there so its a little different. Or maybe you have the body of an adonis, i dont know nor care... just know thats not hudson haha.
Most girls hate being hit on while they're working out. Maybe its different when they're checking in or with their trainers who they've developed trust with.
Yeah looking forward to his next thread start of where to buy groceries in NYC...
That's what Grindr is for, boss.

Yeah that sounded bad - my bad. It was long before i was a trainer - i never mixed biz with plez - the Vertical club in the 80s in NYC was wild - leave it at that lol.
I haven't meet any girls at my current gym, but that's because it is a yuppie gym in the suburbs so most of the girls are kids or married.
But, friend wise, that's where I've met everybody since I've been there almost a decade.
Given it's my hobby, if it's really worth I can do it.
The NYSC by where I will be (3rd Ave UES) got horrible reviews (3.0) online.
Said it had no ac and poor ventilation, crammed in a basement.
I heard their breakdown of fans is:
47% Giants
22% Jets
42% Penguins
38% Islanders
63% Rangers
1% Lynx
They don't add up to 100% because a lot of the schmucks there are fans of multiple teams, even within a sport
So it's worth a try?

I've been to a couple of Equinox gyms in the city and it is by far a better gym in every single aspect. I just can't justify paying the price for it when I can get access to any NYSC for $25/month (corporate rate). If I had the disposable income and spent that much time at the gym, I would join Equinox without question.
