‘We’re never going to be picking up here ever again. We have to get our quarterback for when Eli [Manning] is done, right now.’
Because it's not a given that any of these guys a sure fire top 5 worthy picks. They all have pretty serious ???, Darnold with unimpressive play, Rosen with the concussions and durability questions, Allen being polished enough, Mayfield height, style, attitude.
Josh Allen might have more arm talent than any QB I've ever seen, at least in the last 10 years. It's between him and Mahomes, and I'd give him the edge. He is also 6'5, 230 and very mobile. He can extend plays, run circles around D-lineman and LB's, and throw 50 yard lasers on the run across his body. It's unreal to watch.
But, I can't get over the lack of production and low completion percentage.
Also on Allen- love the fact that he will be playing in the Senior Bowl. He is the guy I am most excited to watch there. He comes from an offense that is similar to the pro-style offense, so he will have a chance to shine. Excited to see what he can do playing against the best prospects and throwing to talented receivers.

"They're never going to be picking this high again"? I don't share that sentiment. This roster is in shambles and year's opponents look rough. They might be 1-7 or 2-6 on the road alone. This is going to be a multi-year ordeal to get this thing righted. I'd be shocked if this thing turns around fast enough next year to be anything better than 5/6 wins. I don't think it'll get to 3-13 bad, but in all likelihood, they're be picking inside the top 10 again in 2019.

It will be interesting to see him in the Senior Bowl. By all accounts he has no supporting cast around him. If he has that strong arm, and some mobility, he sounds like someone that needs to get consideration.

Josh Allen also lost his top targets and was working with second tier players across the o-line, at WR and TE. I'll take him every day of the week over Rosen. As DJ mentioned, it might be the ideal situation to groom Allen, as he's not ready to play yet and could come in and learn from a HOF caliber QB to get ready for the future.

neither do I. I'm very skeptical of them being able to have a dramatic turnaround. Lots of holes to fill, many guys with serious attitude issues, and new systems to learn again.

** THIS year's opponents **
Also if we trade down we will most likely get a 2019 #1 as part of the deal. That would allow us to package that and move up in 2019 even if we did not have a high pick

I think Phil Simms college team was 5-5. Eli's team was not great. QBs that have gone through adversity in college make better pros. That is why many USC QBs have failed. They are used to being protected by the best OL and throwing to the best WRs and having the best RB.
Many of their college teams were good, but not great.
Farve, Rodgers, Big Ben, Rivers, Brady, Brees, Elway, Peyton Manning, all faced adversity in college.
Of the top 4 choices my thought is that the most adversity is Allen, Mayfield, Darnold, Rosen in that order from most to least.
picking Josh Allen. Jeremiah, even though he really talked him up, when asked if he compares to Wentz, he said he could be better because he's got a better arm, supposedly more athletic, etc..., but what he lacked that Wentz has in spades is poise. Isn't that kind of a big deal?

I watched the first half of Allen's bowl game -- his first TD pass was a bleeping blue dart, perfectly thrown. He sure didn't do anything to make me think he can't make all the throws.
These guys are unreal, sometimes you lose your poise when you have a horrible offensive line with nobody to throw to, that can happen, look at how many times it happens top Eli now, yet these same people still want to keep Flowers. But I don't think poise is any kind of measurable to look at.

Agreed, I'm looking forward to seeing Allen in the Sr Bowl. I too have questions about his accuracy, but his arm talent is out of this world.

Not sure about his receivers, but 2 of his OL made all-conference this year. I don't buy that his OL was that bad.
interesting comments about Darnold re: hand size, we have that problem with Eli right now.
There is similarity of lack of hand size and/ or strength that allows both to fumble easily, and also some of SDs decision making as well. Seems to me they both put it on themselves to make/force a play rather than take the sack/ throw it away.. live for the next play.
Giants bought and lived with that in Eli;think they'd prefer a game manager this time. If i am right and SD can become that, they might be OK with him if they have the option of having him.
I wouldn't take either of the So Cal Qb's. Not sure if either is strong enough to last NJ winter. Rosen is already injured and the 2X I saw Darnold- Average.
The one thing Allen has is he played in Wyoming. I was listening to WY/CSU game in blizzard. Allen led WY to 2 late drives to win. STRONG.
This is multi year problem. I would trade down to tale all the OL/DL/LB's I can get.
Beef up interior , See if Webb is any good, Ease Eli out.
If all goes well you have a Seattle/Pittsburgh type run

Unreal? It's something Jeremiah mentioned, as have other scouts, and it's not something to sneeze at. He may have a great arm, but in no way does that guarantee him to be a successful NFL quarterback.

Eli's hands had no problem holding his 2 Superbowl MVP trophies!!!
