Giants better have a plan B

bluepepper : 1/12/2018 10:45 am
I know the question's been posed in other threads - what if we end up with none of Patricia, Shurmur or McDaniels? But I am not sure anyone has spelled out how plausible this scenario is. It's not some crazy one in a hundred bank shot. It's not even a matter of all 3 turning us down. It could happen if just one guy (Patricia) delays his decision a bit and then turns us down.

1) Giants and Lions both offer Patricia. He's unsure which to take and wants more time. Since he's number one on both lists they give him time.
2) Arizona offers Shurmur - even if he prefers NYG he can't pass and accepts
3) Indy offers McDaniels - again even if he prefers NYG he can't turn down a live offer and accepts
4) Patricia finally decides and takes the Lions job
5) Giants???

Mentioned it earlier today

“Rapoport thinks Wilks is going to return to Carolina. If true, one team is going to be caught with their pants down as these 3 guys are the only men in the running for these 4 jobs. It would be a colossal embarrassment if Mara hired Gettleman quickly in part to get a jump on the HC search (as he mentioned) and in the end, that team left standing when the music stops is the NYG.”
They are totally
BigBlueDownTheShore : 1/12/2018 10:48 am : link
negotiating right now with an agent.
I would have to assume
MotownGIANTS : 1/12/2018 10:49 am : link
since we shut down interviews and told candidates they are not in the running we have a verbal agreement with someone in the postseason that is the most logical thing at this point.

After rushing and misfiring on Mc and TC, Eli fallout and complete FO overall no way they botch this by being caught with their pants down.
nah
djm : 1/12/2018 10:49 am : link
they don't. The Giants will probably just stand around, maybe take a ski trip up to Vermont this weekend, sleep in late, dance around like nobody is watching and forget that about the HC openings for a while. Then all the HC candidates will go elsewhere and the Giants will just rehire Mcadoo.

The Colt's are going to be pants-less.

Look we are the most attractive job. Great draft pick, with an established QB, and attractive pieces on both sides of the ball. You could pick your own Qb, or stay with Eli.

Plan B might be Plan A

Which is to sign Belichick.
why would anyone think we don't have a plan B?
UConn4523 : 1/12/2018 10:57 am : link
Gettelman doesn't strike me as an idiot who doesn't have a fall back plan. That said a deal is likely in place for someone that hasn't been eliminated yet.

I must have missed the reports that everyone we interviewed turned us down or already accepted agreements with other teams.

NFL teams are not stupid and especially not the giants!! Everyone knows the process and the the time constraints.

The giants already made their decision and they are probably working out details as some of you post this garbage!!

This is all I see and hear!! The giants aren't attractive to potential coaches. We are a mess, blah blah blah
Plan B = $
RetroJint : 1/12/2018 11:05 am : link
Blow their asses out of the water with compensation . There is no salary cap covering coaches . Hedging , being reactive , going on bi-polar starvation followed by binging has become the “Giant way.” If Gettleman has his guy don’t let him get away .
Yawn
Rflairr : 1/12/2018 11:05 am : link
They’ll get which ever one they want. None of them are taking those jobs over the Giants job

Coach
Pete44 : 1/12/2018 11:12 am : link
You would have to hope that the Giants have a commitment and that is why they have shut things down and are not worried about a plan B. They could be negotiating with all 3 and seeing what happens.

As for whether the Giants job is attractive or not is up for debate, but I default to job security. If a coach does a good job and represents the organization well, the Giants will give that guy every opportunity to coach the team for 10 years, even if he goes 7-9 for 2 years straight. You can't say that about the other teams. If you add in that there is talent on this team and the #2 pick, the job is not unattractive.
I don't think the Giants
bluepepper : 1/12/2018 11:17 am : link
are blithering idiots but they've been caught with their pants down before. George Young 1996 draft - Pick 5 and only 4 guys on his list. Also 1993 coaching search ended up being a wing-it job. And Reese in the 2016 with the Tunsil/Floyd/Apple situation doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I don't get this notion that there is no Plan B.
Matt M. : 1/12/2018 11:24 am : link
They've interviewed a number of candidates already. That amounts to Plan A, B, C, etc. Frankly, if Spags is their backup, then they may as well have none. I would have no confidence in the health of the franchise.

No, an NFL franchise run by educated, hard working professionals who have brought us to 5 Super Bowls have no contingencies in place for anything. It's almost like some of you have no perspective on anything and worry just to worry.

Right because George young and Reese are still here. Scream and holler all you want when the speculated top 3 (shurmur, Patricia and McDaniels) take jobs elsewhere.

I think there are a number of factors bogging this job down. 1. The Eli Manning/QB situation. The increasing involvement of Ownership. The giant media market that is NY where every difficult move that has to be made in the coming offseason will be under the strongest microscope in football.

Lots of coaches wouldn’t want to deal with that.

THe last one was not being caught with pants down it was just stupid handling of the draft (and not just those examples) under Reese.

Second time today I agree completely with you. It is pretty funny. For those freaking out, why are you? All the teams mentioned are looking at the same guys, thus nobody can actually be signed (wink wink) before hand. Unless you think the others are negotiating with agents but the Giants are just waiting for the candidates current teams to play their final games before negotiating....

Whiny bunch of hand-wringing washwomen.
I really hope that both the Pats

And Vikings lose this weekend if for no other reason we don't have to endure another week of hand-wringing threads about the head coaching situation.

Everyone...just be patient. When the Patriots lose, or after their Super Bowl, we will have our guy and everyone will know. Just be patient and relax.

Obviously I believe it will be one of the Patriots coordinators.

micky : 1/12/2018 12:23 pm : link
now I'd expect him to shoot down any belichick rumors/dreams/etc. Well, he really didn't poo poo the idea that something is up there. He said, if he was the giants "they should stay the course as they are doing business now" (to para phrase) and being or waiting this out.

any of the two, McDaniels or Patricia, in NE would have to wait when done to hire. However, if there is truth to the turmoil in NE between BB, Kraft, etc..then something further could transpire as in BB leaving. it leaves risks in seeing if so..but..it seems most whom you'd expect to shoot this "pipe dream" down that are close to team ..aren't quite doing so. that leads to one believe some "smoke"...

just something isn't right and this isn't dying down..js
