If the Yankees want to scrape every dollar to stay under the cap for next year, they could do better for a backup catcher than Romine and probably save a few hundred K.

Ok this is now officially a pet peeve of mine. There is no salary cap in baseball, what you are referring to is a luxury tax threshold. Every Yankees post with someone calling it a cap will now get a similar response.
When the luxury tax is so outlandishly punitive

It functions almost the same way as a salary cap. Weird thing to get your panties in a wad about.
Glad they avoided another ugly arbitration battle

With Betances
Kahnle too, $1.3M
yatqb : 1/12/2018 6:41 pm : link
So only Shreve is left, and he'll be under $1M.

Does anyone know where that puts the payroll as of now?
They are still under the cap.
LarmerTJR : 1/12/2018 6:45 pm : link
Better to pay 20% over on cash over the cap.
It’s 50% if they stay over the cap.
The cap is really a pain in the ass.
Dumb cap.
Other Yanks news

minor leagues. Both Cito Culver and Dante Bichette Jr. have signed on with other organizations.
Looks like Shreve signed too...$825K.

.
Man, it is good to see that

Cash is working hard to save money and stay under the cap.
Great job by Cashman
eric2425ny : 1/12/2018 7:23 pm : link
He really had to put his thinking cap on today to make these moves to help us stay under the cap.
Yep awesome job by Cash- staying under the CAP
Stu11 : 1/12/2018 7:43 pm : link
I mean it means everything to this organization to stay under the CAP
one more step toward staying under the salary cap
DennyInDenville : 1/12/2018 8:12 pm : link
Getting awfully tight but stay below the cap and next year we go raw uncapped and blow a huge load

Exactly. And I hope every single poster refers to it as a cap from now on.
I wonder if Cash and the front office employs a capologist

Like the Giants do with Kevin Abrams? Bc they’re doing a great job building the roster with the cap in mind this offseason
Good job
BocaGiants91 : 1/12/2018 8:34 pm : link
It’s still not a cap though guys. There trying to reset their luxury tax penalty % on dollars they are above the luxury tax threshold, they will be back to going over next year if it means a big ticket item like Machado or Harper.
Very integral time to stay under the cap
adamg : 1/12/2018 8:34 pm : link
Well done, Cash.

So wait...are you saying the luxury tax threshold is...capped?
More good news.
