Lions informed other candidates they’ve been eliminated

GiantsBRFan2 : 1/14/2018 10:04 pm
@AlbertBreer
Per sources, Lions have informed other candidates they’ve been eliminated from the search, moving forward with the expectation Matt Patricia will be their head coach when the Patriots season ends. So that job is officially off the board.

Devastated

I think this guy has the “it” factor and the smarts to be one of the greats. Highly disappointed the giants couldn’t get it done.
Not arguing that what he said isn't true
Greg from LI : 1/14/2018 10:10 pm : link
But that's not what officially means. It's officially off the board when Patricia signs a contract. Until then, it's only unofficially off the board.
So down to
darren in pdx : 1/14/2018 10:10 pm : link
McDaniels or Shurmur..or Wilks..or mysterious 'sleeper' candidate if there even is one..this is like the 2005 off-season all over again.

This almost, ALMOST makes the impending distaster hire of McDaniels worthwhile in the end.
So, now the dominos fall.
robbieballs2003 : 1/14/2018 10:11 pm : link
OAK - Gruden
CHI - Nagy
DET - Patricia
NYG - McDaniels
ARI - Shurmur?
IND - Vrabel?

If it came down to him just wanting to work with a GM he has worked for and knows well not really much the Giants can do about that, guy doesn't seem to be motivated by money based on his life story...and we still don't know for sure that he was the #1 choice all along.
McDaniels to Colts is what has been reported...
BigBlue2007 : 1/14/2018 10:14 pm : link
By the beat writers. We will see.
Would Mike Smith

be a decent alternative? I'm surprised that he hasn't been looked at by anyone.

I was too until it was pointed out in another thread his defense was the only defense in the league worse than ours.

In the past, it's been reported as interest. But not tonight.
Doesn't really bother me
lugnut : 1/14/2018 10:23 pm : link
I think I prefer Shurmur and hope we throw $$ at him or whatever it takes to keep him away from AZ -- especially if we're drafting QB up top this year. Guy's been successful everywhere but CLE, but NOBODY's been successful there and nobody can -- it's a black hole inside a vortex that just sucks in failure.

Patricia -- who the hell can know? Let DET test him out. (Although, I don't think anyone can succeed there either.)
Well we have seen what that org and city can do...
Giants_West : 1/14/2018 10:28 pm : link
to all-time greats. So if that is what he ends up being I expect he will probably find his actual success somewhere else. Or just retire from football.

And then McDaniels met Jim Irsay. End of story
I’d really warmed up to Patricia

as a candidate
Have we seen any assistants names attached to any of these HCing

candidates? I saw the LB coach with McDaniels. I have seen Del Rio's name attached to Shurmur. Anything else?
What happened to Studesville?

My feelings too.

At first I was all about McDaniels, but after learning and reading much more about Patricia after discovering he was a candidate, I think he has what it takes to be great.

So MP became my 1a to JM as 1b. So i’m a little disappointed to learn he is likely going to Detroit, but will really be devastated to miss out on both NE guys.
No offense to anyone in particular
trueblueinpw : 1/14/2018 11:01 pm : link
But this is a Belicick’s d-co. The only “it” factor he has is working for the GOAT H/C. There aren’t any Belichick coaches that have gone on to any sort of remarkable success. Patricia has been in the most ideal circumstances anyone could possibly imagine. He couldn’t have any more advantages as a coach in the NFL. Maybe he goes on to replace Hoodie as the GOAT H/C but can we at least give him a few games before we mourn the loss of him here in NY?

C'mon, dude. You know that's not the BBI way. The mouth-breathers have to have something to complain abut.

Exactly, at the end of the day it’s his choice not ours.
Belichick will be the coach.

At least I’m still holding out hope that is the case.

Meanwhile, we have this gem by Pat Leonard

Could've definitely been written by a lot of BBIers.

I get the feeling, though, from reading the asshat thread, that the Giants already had their guy (an agreement) before the news started surfacing about Patricia. i.e., no spurning involved.

Am I wrong?

I think you may be correct. I can't wait to see how he tries to backtrack when the news comes out re: our hiring JM. Leonard is an idiot.

To notify coaches that Patricia is their guy, why are the Giants confident enough to notify their candidates that they have their guy?

His headline has some accuracy to it though... The Giants have indeed fallen far.
So Pat Leonard
ryanmkeane : 1/15/2018 12:54 am : link
now writes an article crushing the Giants saying “how far they have fallen “ after he made himself look like a complete embarrassment? Nice Pat. Nice. This guy can fuck off.

This year really sucked, but I don't see the organization in decline. Generally, the Giants have handled things well since the late '70s. I don't think that's changed.

Leonard is just a douche. In fact, most of the NY media is douche-y. (It's the kind of column you'd never see in New England ever, no matter how badly a team is playing.)

I don't agree w/what Pat has written but I do sympathize with these young men who made sports writing their aspiration. The only way to survive since the physical newspaper is in decline,is to write articles that create click bait online. His job isn't to be liked but to have people read his piece. And,since we at BBI have the "scoop" on the HC position,we can read it knowing that he will be writing a mea culpa!
Pat Leonard sounds like he has a
