Wow! Has anyone else tried the Beyond Meat burger. I tried it for the first time and was blown away with how much it actually resembled and tasted like a real hamburger.
I have been eating a mostly plant based diet as a way to drop my cholesterol and have tried some of the fake meat and cheese products--they have improved a lot over the years. For the most part I stay away but do enjoy some brands like field roast and there are some really good cashew and almond milk cheeses as well.
I have eaten my fair share of amazing burgers and meat in NY and New England over the years. I do miss eating it at times but for the most part I don't. Every now and then I get a craving still for meat, but when I eat a little it doesn't sit well anymore. I do enjoy some veggie burgers dressed up a lot, but the beyond meat burger was at a whole other level. I have tried some of the brand's other products but this one was unbelievable and I could really see it down the road being more mainstream.
Not so much looking forward to dealing with dopes who think raising an animal for slaughter makes for a tastier burger.
I also think overtime there may be an increase in the price of meat due to the resources necessary to produce it. This company sees itself as a potential for mass market. I think it would be easy to replace chicken nuggets with a plant based substitute without many people knowing. This burger tasted more like a real burger than McDonalds does!
A lot of big names have invested in products like these with the thought of them being mainstreamed in the future. I find it all very interesting. I didn't head toward being largely vegan for ethical reasons--I still eat fish and eggs--but after watching some of "those" documentaries on the food industry, I can say I feel better about my food choices.
Looks like it might be available at a Tampa Whole Foods, so I'll give it a try.
Whole Foods sells them like crazy and its cheaper to buy them from there and make them yourself obviously.
Beyond Meat is also reporting that they are coming out with a line of sausages this spring. If they are as good as the Beyond Burger there really is no reason to want to eat meat. They are made from plant protein as opposed to soy like in other veggie burgers.
Hopefully this changes the game..
However the del friscos steaks of the world will never be replaced.
Decaf... Splenda.

Definitely some interesting science going on but not petry dish stuff.
I am amazed where all the food engineering is heading. Some of it is disgusting. It almost all used to be inedible, but in the last few years the advances have been impressive. There are somethings I have found that I even prefer to the real stuff.
