Anyone else concerned by the lack of great young QBs?

BestFeature : 1/15/2018 12:13 am
I just had a thought. The following QBs are all 34 and up:

Drew Brees
Tom Brady
Eli Manning
Aaron Rodgers
Philip Rivers
Ben Roethlisberger

Peyton retired...

Seems like most of the QBs are on the older side with not that many younger QBs left. I guess Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. Russell Wilson is still relatively young. But it seems like this golden era of QBs is over and the only ones left are either not impressive or question marks (though some because of their age and that's not their fault).
There is a lot of talented young QB’s

I like Mahomes. Obviously hasn’t done anything yet but I think he’ll be a star in that Andy Reid system. Deshaun Watson looked great. Jimmy Garopolo will be very good in SF. Plus, a strong QB class coming in. Wentz is obviously the real deal.

Then there is also a lot of good guys like Stafford, Luck, Rodgers, Wilson and Ryan who still have a bunch of years left. Even Carr if he can bounce back under Gruden. Just last year people were saying he was top 5.
Very good QBs under 30

Cam Newton
Dak Prescott
Stafford (turns 30 next month)
Case Keenum (turns 30 next month)
Derek Carr
Jimmy Garoppolo
Marcus Mariota
Kirk Cousins (turns 30 in August)
Russell Wilson (turns 30 in November)

I'd take any of them on the Giants right now and not think twice.
Wentz & Goff

for there to be fewer "win-button" qbs in the league. The oughts were nice but I really missed balanced football and it is nice to see it making a come back.
yeah there's plenty of good young QB

talent. Of course some people will trash all of these guys as losers unless they win multiple super bowls but that's just the way it is for QB's.
People had this concern back

In the late 90s abd early 2000s adter the Montana, Elway, Marino, Young group was done

Only Favre was left and considered great

An idea emerged thst you mo longer needed a great QB as Warner, Dilfer, Brady and Brad Johnson racked up Super Bowls.

Of course, Peyton Manning developed. Brady turned out to be not just a 6th rounder got lucky but the GOAT and we got the 04 draft then Rodgers, Brees etc

Dilfer & Johnson now look like rare exceptions with great defenses.

This always happens. They thought that too back in late 70s early 80s as the Bradshaw, Staubach, Tarkentons retired and the Theismans, Plunketts, McMahons started winning SBs. But then Montana emerged as not just a 3rd rder got lucky but the GOAT and the Marino draft happened tgen Elway etc.

New QBs will emerge. Give it time. In the meantime, some mediocre QBs will win led by great Ds and maybe 1 of them will shockingly become a HoFer and vastly outplay their draft position.
The game is changing

I think pro coaches and GMs are still adjusting to the types of quarterbacks that are being supplied by the college game.

Of course, there are some very good young QBs playing right now. But none have that sheen of utter greatness to them. Not like a young Brady, Manning (Peyton), or Rodgers. (I don't view big Ben, Eli--my favorite QB of all time, forever, but still--or even Brees at the same level.) Maybe we'll watch one blossom, though.

I’d look again. I would certainly think twice about some of those guys for sure.
Player development isn't a straight line.

Expecting instant greatness isn't a good way to look at the game. Give the young players a chance to play.
Andrew Luck seems to be totally written off

By everyone as well. I know the injury he had is still scary, but next year he will be 2 years removed from it. Still only 28 years old and probably with a new offensive head coach next year.
Winston is on the verge/fringe

really surprised he didnt have a big year this year. Dont forget Watson and Mahomes looked good in their breif opportunitties

Not just final 4. the 12 playoff teams were all top 15 in rushing, 9 of the top 10 rushing teams made the playoffs.
