Going with belief it's McDaniels...drafting a mobile QB?

chopperhatch : 1/15/2018 12:38 am
Just something else to talk about rather than debate which rumor is valid and which isnt.

So McD pushes to draft Tebow in the1st round when in Denver....it def was not for his arm strength. One can only assume that it was for his ability to be a dual threat making defenses pay for dropping 6/7 into coverage. Could this coupled with DG's experience with Newton's success in CAR be an indicator that Rosen would not be the second choice if Darnold it's gone? Trading back and grabbing Mayfield or Jackson would work for me if we had the right guy to coach them up.

I think you are reaching here. Newton was long in Carolina before Gettleman got there, and although McDaniels has Tebow, his career flamed out and so did McDaniels in Denver. I don’t think a mobile QB means anything to McDaniels. He would want a great QB prospect no matter if mobile or not.

The flip side of your argument is that Brady is probably the least mobile quarterback in the NFL and McDaniels has a track record of oh...5 Super Bowls with him.

Reaching? Just something else to talk about. People talk about Rosen being the first or second choice here. Im merely suggesting it could be otherwise.

1) I know DG inherited Newton, but its not like he advocated for a non mobile QB with Newton. He gave him a 100 million dollar extension before even reaching his 5th year.

2) McD took TT before both careers flamed out. The ONLY reason to take TEBOW was to capitalize on his ability to run the ball. He also brought Tebow to camp in '13 with the Pats. Sorry, but there HAS to be something there. Whether the Giants move forward with something like that is another thing altogether.

3) The Brady thing confuses me...meaning why would any OC in his right mind suggest removing Tom Brady because he cant run? Not only would that be just dumb, but Robert Kraft and Brady are apparently joined at the hip. Plus, the Broncos were playing Cutler I believe at the time and it wasMcD's chance to grab a QB. He went with the mobile guy with not much of an arm. I dont think its ridiculous for McD to be an advocate for using a very high draft pick on an accurate thrower (Mayfield) who can also run to keep defenses honest.

Lastly, you had to know that Brady's back ups for the last couple years, Garropolo and Brissett, were very mobile in their own rights. To think that those were the guys and McD had no input on that for BB would be kinda surprising. I have to think part of the reason Bill brought McD back was that he really liked the offense he ran and trusted his preferences. Additionally, it may have been what started the whole "move on from Brady" thing we are currently hearing about.

of McDaniel and Rosen would be something to watch. They would challenge each other to be great. It would be perfect.
Why would they waste a draft pick on Rosen

"waste a draft pick" again it will be too soon. It is a foolish thing to say, and gets parroted around here far too much.

Because they need a QB to replace Eli going forward in future years perhaps?

So just waste it on a guy with tons of red flags just cuz he's a QB? Thats is exactly how you build a team like the Browns have.

This high you take BPA regardless of position and that player is Barkley.

So you’d waste it on a player red flags?

Every draft prospect has red flags.

Not Barkley. Youd rather us draft Ryan Leaf just cuz hes a QB and not the BPA in Barkley.
