As I said last night, this is why I (and others) are wary of passing on info we hear to BBI. Because if sources are wrong or things change, you guys can be dicks about it.

Have the Colts been tied to Shurmur at all in this process? If not, perhaps that changes now? Yes theyd have to wait until next week to interview, but I would think Shurmur would be intrigued to work with Luck, no?
In any event, I think it's pretty clear that it was McDaniels. The Mularkey firing would have a far lesser impact on the Giants' opening if the Giants wanted to hire Shurmur all along anyway, as McDaniels was always most closely linked with the Titans. (Yes, I understand it means that Shurmur could go to Arizona and leave the Giants with neither Shurmur nor McDaniels.)

In an effort to start the updates early, I almost starting creating the coaching bio for Patricia last week and McDaniels last night. Glad I didn't start.
keep it coming. And - I absolutely can see a sneaky little shit like McDaniels agreeing to take the Giants job while having Tennessee on the other line. One of the reasons I didn't want any of the Belichick guys is they don't play by the normal rules. A "gentleman's agreement" means nothing to these guys - Bill, Mangini, Pioli, McDaniels - all cut from the same cloth. Winning is everything and the win for McDaniels was Tennessee. Eff him.

It might come as a surprise that I wasn't being serious with my comment. It actually was meant to be good-natured ball busting. Apparently when it comes to asshattery that stuff isn't cool. Lesson learned.

our brilliant owner who 1) at the Gettleman presser listed criteria that specifically excluded Wilks and 2) let it leak that Wilks was out of contention.
I thought at the time and still think that #1 was all about Wilks. His name was heavily rumored and for whatever reason John wanted to quash it. He could easily have said something banal like "there's no formula" etc. like pretty much every other team looking for a coach.
And then it gets out he's not in contention. Mara surely didn't leak it but he's the boss. It's his job to protect against this stuff getting out
If I am Wilks I doubt I can take a job with an owner who pretty clearly doesn't want me. Especially when same owner 1) just canned a 2nd year coach who went 11-5 in his first year 2) sped up the firing of his coach and GM when they wanted to make a QB change for evaluation purposes even though he admits he signed off on the plan.
There's only 32 of these jobs - yes, I get it - but you're likely to get only one bite at the apple. You want it to work and you don't want to be on shaky ground with the owner from day one.
