The fact that he got 4 & 5 wins with the trash roster he had should say something. He had far less talent than the last 2 Browns rosters that won one game combined. The guy had Colt McCoy and Jason Campbell as his starting QBs and then a bunch of rookies his second year starting. I think he would be a solid choice to take this job and have great success.

The fact that they haven’t given a name or announced an interview has me thinking that maybe it’s a college guy. If they announced a name, it would effect recruiting with the possibility of that coach leaving looming.
nobody is hyping anything..the OP is discussing his time there which was quite sometime ago.
Who do you think is a better available candidate?
Isn't winning 5 games in Cleveland like winning the SB 3x in a row in a normal city?
Sorry not trying to be snarky to you. But I just don't how you can view those 2 years as positive. I remember those teams and I wouldn't describe them as well coached. What makes Shurmur such a good candidate? 1 impressive year with Minny?

Just saying that I think he had 2 awful teams that won more games than they should have.

The question is who has a better resume in your view as your so down on him?
Every unit the guy has ever coached saw quantifiable improvements over his predecessor...
2 stints as QB coach in Philly — coached McNabb to his best seasons as a pro. Second stint ran Chip kellys offense and got an amazing year out of Nick freaking Foles.
Took over for Josh McDaniels in St. Louis and his offense scored over 100 more points and cut down turnovers dramatically from the previous year —- the team went from winning 1 game to 7.
And then of course the improvement this year in Minn.
Now who has a better coaching resume?

He was a QB coach under Andy Reid and Chip Kelly. Highly doubt he was the reason for Mcnabb's good year or was impactful on the offenses.
You are getting the Rams years screwed up. He was OC from 2009-2010. The rams went 1-15 in 2009 with the worst offense in the league. They scored over 20 points once.
In 2010 the team was better but the offense was only ranked 26th in the league. Its actually shocking he got a head coaching job off these 2 years.
I won't deny his very impressive season this year. However to me there is far more evidence he's a below average coach then a good one.
I'd much prefer Mcdaniels, Wilks, a college HC, or just completely reopening the search. Why is the guy even a better candidate than Del Rio?
Either way I don’t think you can look the other way with JD in Denver/ and hold Shurm to a higher standing in Cleveland of all places

Fair enough. I would just view Mcdaniel's time in Denver as a learning experience for a very young coach. He showed some success while also crashing badly, but alot of that can be attributed to player personnel and immaturity. Hopefully he wouldn't have personnel control and has learned from his mistakes.
