Vikings changed entire offensive line from 2016-2017

jlukes : 1/15/2018 12:13 pm
Gives us some hope for a quick turnaround.

Here's an article that details the changes the vikings made in their busy 2017 spring and summer

Reese and most of BBI said there was no O-lineman worth investing in from Free Agency and the Draft....
But how are they going to have continuity?

Idk about "most of BBI" - but I agree with Reese saying that. Sticking with that same 5 "growing" was insane.

I have confidence Gettleman will blow up this OL and we will have (hopefully) more than 3 new starters in 2018

There will always be fans that back the Giants decisions
I wanted Reiff badly last year

Though he was perfect for our situation - could play RT and give Flowers competition at LT.

Thoughthe should have been top priority.. but what do I know.
New Orleans rebuilt their O Line in a couple of seasons
Rjanyg : 1/15/2018 12:54 pm : link
Brought in Warford and Ramcych last year. Jacksonville rebuilt their in 3 seasons, adding Cam Robinson this year in round 2.

It can be done. It needs to be done.
While it is possible,

it is not the norm.....to think Gettleman can do this in one year is pure insanity or very wishful thinking....

Sad part is we have no building blocks to start with....

Flowers may only be here only one more year, and not as a LT, so that will be a learning process....

Richburg(lack of strength/health) and Pugh(average OLman who can play multiple positions, but also has health/durability problems) won't be back because of what they will be asking for, and can't deliver at that price.....Jerry should be cut....also Hart......Wheeler is backup material.....Fluker is not a starter, but will want starter money....Bisnowaty is a long shot as a backup....

So basically we are looking for 4 starters......AND a competent OL coach who can deliver.....

Just because others teams have done it, does not make it automatic for the New York Football Giants....this team may gain respectability over the next two years....and if Eli stays, he will be gone after that......unless we grabbed a blue chipper at #2, or Webb is the answer, it will be more than two years before this team is a serious contender again....

Yes, you can point at Jax as a contender.....but just as quickly as they have climbed, just as quickly they can fall(almost like the Giants who supposedly had a great defense)....They played Buffalo.....they played the Steelers, a team that they had that team's number.....they will come down to earth against the Pats.....If Bortles has a really bad game, Jax has to make a huge decision on who is their qb next season........
And the Jaguars won three games last year.

Dude no one is saying it’s easy...and it’s far from insanity. Jesus.

How are the 2016 3-13 Jags lookin right now by the way?
Jags, Vikes, Rams, and Saints
Giantfan in skinland : 1/15/2018 4:19 pm : link
are all good examples of very quick overhauls on the OL in recent history.

It's not easy. The parts have to be there in FA and the draft. But it absolutely can be done in a year or two.

If you know what you're doing. It doesn't look as if whoever has been in place at the Giants to pick and evaluate OL players qualifies in this regard.
So brilliant to spend money on

They are doing well. They will be playing in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.
Work To Do
Rong5611 : 1/15/2018 5:37 pm : link
But fixable. Some moves to consider -

Try to keep Pugh unless he's completely unreasonable on salary. He can play G and/or T.

We have Wheeler after an off-season in the weight room. He likely starts at a tackle spot (LT?) next year if successful. He looked pretty good.

Flowers can transition to guard (RG) or you try him at RT.

Jones was ok & cheap at center, I bet they keep him and draft a C.

We will likely use one or ore of our high round picks after the 1st round. They can find some depth, maybe a starter here too.

Not sure who's available via PA, not sure how to comment on that.

Clearly you are confused because most of BBI felt the Giants needed to address the offensive line last year and were pushing for signing players like Whitworth, Reiff, etc.

Yeah and they signed a tackle

I was clamoring for all offseason long. I still don't understand that non move out of Reese and I never will. Riley reiff was everything this team needed and more. Plays both tackle positions. Going into his second contract. And the Giants didn't even make an effort.
Maybe Vikings GM is guy we should

Yeah. The two tackles available at 25 really sucked. Except both would be better than any T on the Giants. Somehow Cam Robinson who was a G at best according to all he genius’ is playing LT next week for a
Chance to go to the Super Bowl. And Ramczyk flipped to both left and right tackle all year. Playing well.

Reese was a big an issue as anything. In 11 years he drafted mybe 1 or two good OL.

No I am not being sarcastic. Recall plenty of debates on here while too many were drinking the cool-aid and saying trust Reese and lets see how it plays out next summer on the Oline since the next John Hannah wasn't available.

The minority realized how ANY new blood on the oline would have been an upgrade since our top 5 didn't play well individually or collectively. But Reese sat still and the majority said "lets wait and see". What the hell did that get us?

Sure, we got Fluker and didnt realize until half the season was over that he should have been a day one starter. But we didn't give him any meaningful snaps so who would ever know? (sound familiar...Webb).

We don't make a difference on BBI as to what the Giants decide...but its the minority opinion (not the radical ones but the supportive views) that is so more valuable than playing a sheep...b
