Why has there been zero interest from the Giants in college coaches? I understand the top guys who highly unlikely to leave- Harbaugh, Shaw, Saban etc. But what about the following?
Chris Petersen
Kyle Whittingham
James Franklin
Kirby Smart
Kirk Ferentz
Pat Fitzgerald
Mark Dantonio
Is it lack of interest from the Giants to target college guys? Is it lack of interest from the college coaches? I really thought the Giants opening would be the top job and highly desirable. This search has been uninspiring to say the least.
If you don't think Spags and Studesville were very serious targets, then the Giants have really interviewed four candidates.
The process has been very transparent with the Giants issuing press releases after every interview. They have apparently stopped unless you are one of the "conspiracy theorists" who think someone like Belichick may be in play (unlikely).
On the surface, it does not look like a wide-ranging search, keeping in mind that the interview is only one part of the evaluation.

I felt like the Studesville interview was Gettleman trying to give an old associate a boost. Helps ES' stock around the league for him to be getting HC interviews, plus gives him some experience in interviewing.
Look at how Chip Kelly flamed out, and when was the last time a college coach moved to the NFL and succeeded as a head coach without working up through the assistant ranks [asking seriously, I truly can't think of the last one.]
Harbaugh and Meyer? Read my whole post. Of course I would want them to go after them. Along with Saban and Shaw. But its highly unlikely. The point of my post is why they aren't going after any college coaches.....
Maybe the Giants have reached out to/interviewed some of these guys but have kept it under wraps. The Colts interviewed Rhule but it was kept pretty secretive until after the fact.

Maybe the top choice for HC liked him as OC so the Giants wanted to interview him not expecting that Denver would fire him

Pete Carroll, Doug Marrone, Bill O'Brien, Jim Harbaugh just to name a few. Also, Chip Kelly flamed out hard but he still enjoyed success in the NFL. 26-21 overall with a playoff appearance. His demise could also be blamed on getting total control.
There's plenty of coordinators who have failed, yet teams still keep going that route. Why isn't the same applied for college head coaches?

many of the motivational tools to inspire 18-22 year olds don't work on multi-millionaires. It's a whole different ballgame.

Carroll was a head coach in NFL before going to college ranks. Bill O'Brien and Doug Marrone both were NFL assistants (a la Tom Coughlin). Jim Harbaugh was a longtime NFL QB.

Ferentz, Franklin and Smart all have NFL experience as do Shaw/ Saban/ Harbaugh.

I wonder if they were looking at Studesville as a potential OC for Wilks, if they were going to go that way. If you recall, Studesville's interview was postponed due to weather and he was supposed to interview ahead of Wilks. Just trying to make sense of an illogical candidate.

and you don't include the two coaches who won 10+ games each of the past two years. smh.
