Would you sign up for Spags as HC..

NYBEN1963 : 1/15/2018 3:10 pm
If he hired a REAL DC and gave up calling plays defensively?Personally I would much rather a coach that is not tied to one side of the ball over the other. Give me a fulltime HC
No.

I thank him for 2007, but he hasn't done much since. Time to move on. Afraid he may still be here given Shurmur and Spags have worked together.
No
Modus Operandi : 1/15/2018 3:13 pm : link
That would signal to me that we went through this entire process without a real target, or didn't feel strongly enough about any candidate to make a real push to sign them and ended up alone at the alter.

Spags hasn't earned another shot at HC, imho.
No, thank you
Bill in UT : 1/15/2018 3:14 pm : link
and no to having him as DC either
You are 2 for 2 today - and not in a good way

No to Spags and No to hanging on to Eli for 3 more years.

Agreed about Spags track record since he left the after 2008..that's why he should give up playcalling and hire a DC if given the job as HC with the Giants or anywhere else that he may get a shot

Are you kidding me? The Offense could have been called "Three and Out". You have to go back to the late 60's early 70's for this kind of ineptitude.

Yeah -- but the Offense was the same as it was the year before -- the defense slipped off the rails this past year after being a difference maker last year
Spags has presided over some historically bad defenses
regulator : 1/15/2018 3:37 pm : link
with greater regularity than he puts a quality unit on the field. Sure, there plenty of reasons why that is the case, some of which he may not control, but 2007, 2008 and 2017 doesn't undo 2009-2011 with STL as HC, NO in 2012, or 2015/2017 here.

Agreed ..I was more interested in everyone's thoughts on him as a HC if the responsibility of DC was delegated to someone else. I think everyone read the title and not the full comment. Truth is I believe it is time to move on from Spags as well but the names being tossed around are just ...weak
Absolutely NOT
Matt M. : 1/15/2018 3:41 pm : link
His resume has nothing on it to warrant his hiring. There is a reason the Giants were his only interview this time around.

Gettleman needs to step in here if that is the case, and say no.
Spags indicated HC is not that important anymore

Spags might make a great HC .

We don't actually know the who, what, why of the defense last year . who called the shots or how much authority he actually had.

And the defense could have been called "absolutely no three and outs. And all the starting CBs suspended, too."

It's long for a nickname, but it's accurate.

11-41. That's Spagnuolo's career record as a HC. That's not an accident. That's not circumstantial. That's the 2nd worst winning percentage of any head coach in the past 70+ years who has coached at least 50 games.

Need that to sink in a bit further?

McAdoo (and McDaniels, for that matter, since they have the same career record) would have to go 0-24 for the next season and a half to catch up to Spagnuolo's ineptness as a head coach.

Let it go. Spagnuolo is a middling DC and definitely isn't a better HC than coordinator. We don't know who, what, why? We know that Spagnuolo was the senior coach on the defensive side for a unit that underperformed significantly. And it's not the first time that he has overseen a weak unit.

He will always be revered for 2007 (and 2008 and 2016, without rings), but his resume is incredibly inconsistent. There's really no evidence to suggest that he's better than what his record says he is at this point.
I m ok with whomever

Not really joking, I don t know enough to be critical of selections.
If Gettleman gets him good talent, I'm okay with Spags
Blue Racer : 1/15/2018 4:35 pm : link
Like any coach, he needs the right talent that stays relatively injury-free. When that's the case, he does well.

Not at all, but that appears to be an outlier. Spags has been responsible for THREE of the worst defenses in recent years, including two of the worst in NFL HISTORY.

Yup, but the defense had no excuses to be this bad. Injuries were not an issue until midway through the year. The defense was expected to be the strength of the team. And once again under Spags, it was near dead last in the NFL.
NYBEN1963 are you for real? I'll ask again: would you or anybody else
Victor in CT : 1/16/2018 6:35 am : link
here sign up for Perry Fewell as HC? Because again, he has the same 1 SB Ring with the Giants, and doesn't own 5 of the worst defenses of all time on his resume'.

Answer: this board would be in absolute meltdown if they hired Fewell.

This Spags ball gargling is just ridiculous. The D was a major disappoint BEFORE injuries this year as Eric pointed out.
Riddle me this?
trueblueinpw : 1/16/2018 7:43 am : link
What was more embarrassing this past season: the Giants pathetic offense or the Giants shit show defense? As bad as the offense was, and it was for the second year in a row historically pathetic, it was the defense that lost games, ranked at the bottom of the league AND fell apart with players giving up on the field and fighting among themselves and leaking business to press.

As bad as the offense was, I think it was the defense that really embarrassed the Giants franchise this past season. Even after McAd’oh and Reese were fired we still had Baby Eli Apple and Landon “I want a player’s coach” Collins spewing non-sense and causing more embarrassment and trouble in the media. Why would anyone want the coach leading such a pathetic band of ass clowns for another season. I don’t want one single coach from the McAd’oh regime. Not a single one.

Spags seems like a good..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/16/2018 8:29 am : link
guy, but what's the fascination with him??

He's presided over 3 of the historically worst defenses in NFL history. Let that sink in. He was the DC of three of the bottom 10 defenses.

In most circles, that gets you run out of town. Here, people start threads calling for him to be HC.

You know who isn't on the bottom 10 list? Perry Fewell, yet some still put pins in his voodoo doll.
