Add Pirates to the Marlins as teams that need to be contracted. Those are AAA teams. Joke franchises, its MLB spend some money or fold the franchise. And Manfred is cool with it too. Hes not as bad as Goodell but hes slowly on his way.

Don't know if it'll change once he gets here or offseason ends, but Giants plan had been to play McCutchen in a corner outfield spot. Still want defense in center field.

Why? Pittsburgh had a 3-4 year window (2013-2016) to win, and they weren't able to, so it makes sense for them to offload veterans for prospects
Remember that the Giants were a little less than $10M under the luxury tax line before the trade. McCutchen is going to make $14.75M in 2018. With only a minimum salary guy going out (Crick), the Giants are now over the luxury tax line.
At this point, it only makes sense for the Giants to go ahead and go for it in 2018 by exceeding the luxury tax by whatever it takes.
The Giants could add Ellsbury and begin building a solid lineup to go with a decent rotation. Ellsbury in front of Cutch, Posey, Belt, and Longoria is probably a competitive lineup. Add in a rotation of Bumgarner, Cueto, Shark and others might be enough to get them to the playoffs.
They may as well add a strong CF and then add one FA SP (I think that they might want to be in on Arrieta).
Ellsbury to the only team he will waive his non trade for. It was only a shot since it had Frazier included who would have played left, that is not over.

Trading for him made much more since than signing Bruce. But youre right too much money. They only did Bruce because he back loaded his contract
