Thanks Reese, left DG in decent shape roster/cap-wise, best draft picks we have had since we picked the best defensive player ever to play the game. Exciting times.
I'll say it again
pjcas18 : 1/16/2018 1:51 pm : link
that Saints draft is insane, on top of last year's really good draft.

I never really hear Micky Loomis mentioned as a great GM, but he's nailed it the past couple seasons.

Rightfully so

Engram was more productive than the other rookie TEs and compared favorably to most rookie WR. Setting aside his blocking (which, I thought, was a little better than advertised), receiving stats are a big deal in this era.

Tomlinson played at a veteran level from Day 1. A nice pick.

The Giants 2017 draft and UDFA haul was pretty solid... some good pieces as we rebuild this team.
Together, one last time....

now let's get a damn offensive line.
But but but
Cap'n Bluebeard : 1/16/2018 2:08 pm : link
PFF had him listed as the lowest rated 1st Round pick! How can this be?!?
Ha...

Rough year for rookie guards. Eluemunor only started 2 games.
Poor Marcus WIlliams
Pete in 'Vliet : 1/16/2018 2:31 pm : link
A great rookie year at safety will only be remembered for that one play.
New Orleans with 4 picks on the team
Chris684 : 1/16/2018 2:31 pm : link
Wow..apparently they had a nice draft (Williams last play from Sunday not withstanding).
Nice draft the

Nice final draft by Reese.

I believe those guys graded him as a TE more than a WR...which slightly skewed it.
Tomlinson was way underrated on BBI this fall
njm : 1/16/2018 3:58 pm : link
But PFF's rating of Engram reached travesty level.
The Marcus William votes were all counted

before Sunday...
Yes but at the beginning of the year
NikkiMac : 1/16/2018 4:49 pm : link
Tomlinson and Bromley even snacks had problems with the run.

Tomlinson played better and better as the year went on which is all you can

Ask for a rookie.
I was pissed when KC traded in front of us to take Hunt.
yatqb : 1/16/2018 8:33 pm : link
I loved him and wanted us to take him, and have to believe KC traded up because they knew that the Giants were going to draft him. We got Webb, of course, and it's to be determined whether he ever contributes to the team.

It does frustrate me that Reese never seemed to move up and down in the draft for guys he liked..."there are good players in every round" just doesn't cut it.
Engram & Tomlinson
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/16/2018 8:34 pm : link
are building blocks.
I'm not giving Reese props...
sb from NYT Forum : 1/16/2018 9:18 pm : link
..Ramczyk should have been the pick there. With the sorry state of your OL, a one-dimensional TE was a luxury we couldn't afford, IMO.
Hardly a luxury. TE has been a revolving door of guys
Ten Ton Hammer : 1/16/2018 11:29 pm : link
who absolutely aren't NFL starters since 2011.
Missed by the Reese nut huggers
LauderdaleMatty : 1/17/2018 7:17 am : link
Is Ryan Ramcyck. Engram was a good pick. But the incessant stupidity that he and Cam Robinson weren’t worth the 25th pick is exactly that.

Is Engram worth more than a starting LT? Wound the have been nearly the issue if Reese didn’t let the OL deteriorate

I liked both Engram and Tomlinson a lot. Very good likcs in a vacuum . Shame he couldn’t find more than one or two OL in 11 years. Need to build a whole roster. Something he was a failure at the last 5-6 years.

Engram isn't Howard Cross, but he puts in the effort which is more than you can say for a lot of young players.
Saints dominate
Chuckstar : 1/17/2018 9:09 am : link
2 on offense and 2 on defense, WOW.
At least Reese left with a positive early round draft.
Well, .....
Crispino : 1/17/2018 9:21 am : link
that’s nice.

100% correct. Engram is a nice player but when is the last tie a team won a title because it had an undersized pass catching TE and no OL to speak of? It was a dumb pick.
Ah, so we're doing that thing
Ten Ton Hammer : 1/17/2018 10:18 am : link
Where the offensive linemen that were real question marks at the time were clearly the picks they should have made.

There's no argument to be made that they didn't need a tight end, and there's no argument to be made that he isn't clearly a good player with a chance to be special. They might have the position solved for 5 years after fooling themselves into thinking that can make a TE out of junk. So it wasn't a dumb pick. They needed both positions.
People seem to forget
Jay on the Island : 1/17/2018 10:22 am : link
that there were serious concerns with Ramcyzk's health and many scouts felt that Cam Robinson was destined for guard.
Joey
ryanmkeane : 1/17/2018 11:38 am : link
I think Reese didn't pick Ramcyzk or Robinson because he thought Flowers was going to improve. Which he did to an extent, but obviously not at the speed anyone could have hoped for.

And he was dead wrong. This OL absolutely killed us all year but yay we have a slot WR we call a TE. I love Engram, don't get me wrong but it's akin to worrying about having a built in GPS before you know if the car even runs.
Was it a down year for rookies....?

TE has been a revolving door because Reese's track record with TEs has been terrible, so for me it's hard to give him props.
Totally agree that OL needed to be that pick instead of Engram.
Jimmy Googs : 1/17/2018 10:15 pm : link
I think Engram is solid as hell but he did not need to go that early.

While I don't think he would have lasted until our 2nd pick he probably lasts into the first handful of picks of round 2. If Reese and Co. were so enamored with his fit on the Giants then they needed to have better sized up the market and made a deal to move up in Rd 2 and gotten both an OL and Engram.

But they fkd up on assessing OL talent AND they reached a bit for Engram...
