Sean Payton Photographed Mocking Vikings

bumpsinthenight : 1/16/2018 3:39 pm
I Really like Sean Payton but this is the second time recently doing something to taunt an opponent. A bit classless move for a head coach in my opinion.

Quote:
Leber said the Saints coach made the motion after kicker Wil Lutz connected on a 43-yard field goal to give New Orleans a 24-23 lead with 25 seconds left.

Payton was asked about the gesture at a press conference on Tuesday and said it was directed toward "a group of fans" and was "good playoff fun."

Quote:

Payton previously made headlines last month for making a choking gesture toward Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman during the teams' Week 14 game.

The NFL fined Payton $10,000 for "improperly entering the playing field" for a separate incident during the Dec. 7 meeting with the Falcons.

Not getting a penalty is irrelevant

if you are going to hold players to a certain standard you should hold their coaches to an even higher standard. “Hurt the team” is your way of weasel info out of this.

I don't know what you're talking about. When have I "defended" soccer players and what have I defended them from?

The same douche bags ride in to defend Beckham and complain if I besmirch his honor, but they bring him up to me on a thread that has nothing to do with him.

The funny thing is Beckham probably doesn't give it a shit what team he plays for, but these same white knight assholes protect him.

arcarsenal, djm, and a few others... You guys probably don't think this but you don't add anything worth reading here. There's just nothing to learn or gain from you at all.

Wow... kind of a bit over the top. I merely pointed you're a bit inconsistent on certain things. You're salvo back simply tells me I struck a cord. Thanks!

How the hell are we to ignore your posts on shit like this? You go out of your way to eviscerate the best wr on the team at every turn and when we "defend" him you wonder why and actually get angry?? Lol...What the fuck do you think Beckham fans are going to do? You bash him every week! Then defend a HEAD COACH for similar antics!! There a phrase for that... wanna know what it is? Full of shit!

I will knock players that are stupid, yeah. And who was I loudest on? Beckham, JPP, Plax, and your boy Shockey. What do you want from me? I didn't make these guys do stupid shit, blow their hands up, rip their quarterback, or shoot themselves in the leg.

Uconn... aren't you also exercising the same double standard?

Beckham gets personal foul after pissing like a dog... That's ok. Sean Payton throws Iceland's version of the Tomahawk Chop back in the fan's face at no penalty cost, and he's a dick.

People will go to great lengths to avoid accepting the possibility that someone on the Giants could be something other than awesome.

Where has any Giants fan said beckham's antics are ok??

You're resorting to child like tactics where you twist shit around to suit your argument. Not once has any bbier said "ehh it's ok if Beckham acts like an asshole or takes a bad penalty" -- never. Nearly everyone acknowledges his faults while maintaining the belief that Beckham is probably (hopefully) worth the trouble. You know, LOGIC.

In your world we defend beckham's every move blindly and unconditionally and you want him gone at all costs and all blame him for all the Giants problems. And the sun on your planet is purple.

LOL...

Now lets say that in the playoff game last year that after Beckham's third or fourth drop the Packers started pretending to marry the kicking net...that would have been pretty funny.

Except that Beckham was only credited with 2 drops, a figure that somehow keeps getting inflated.

Probably due to the boat trip that is completely over-exaggerated too.
How does a story about Payton dissolve

into another Odell debate?
I just find it odd
djm : 1/16/2018 7:20 pm : link
That you defend Payton while killing other similar acts in the NFL landscape. Maybe I need to examine your comments further for specifics but it just seems like you pick and choose what and who to hate.

Terps -- you are involved in a lot of compelling topics around here. People are going to remember those posts and return serve at times. You can't be shocked when fans come back to you after bashing Beckham. And make it no mistake you kill the guy at every turn. I come back with a defense and you start blasting.

Because of the poster with a vendetta against Beckham saying it’s ok for a head coach to act like a douchebag.
I'm starting to think we have some affected mental states posting here

Terps is ok but I think he’s a bit to robotic. He just comes across as a guy that takes himself, and life, way too seriously. I can’t imagine he spends a lot of time smiling or laughing. And that’s ok, because everybody is different and carries themselves differently. Now, if only HE’d accept that...
I like Terps. He's a good & valuable poster.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/16/2018 7:39 pm : link
But his anti Odell agenda is a bit too much. Listening to him describe Odell, you'd think he was Greg Hardy or something.

If you're going to do some kind of choreographed bit, expect to get mocked now and then. Remember our guys with the dumb "ballin'" celebrations?

Oh and the Minnesota fans ripped this off from fans of Iceland's national soccer team, so I'm not impressed.

No problems with that... the HC acting like an asshole, but Beckham knocking down a kicking net gives you the vapors...

When/Why did that happen again? Shockey was a tool.

Think it was when Jay Feely missed what would have been the game winning FG in Seattle in 2005.

Didn't he also throw ice at a fan in the San Fran playoff game in 2002?

yep

Oh god, that game... that was the game Feely couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, missed a few chances to win the game, in regulation AND overtime
My question is....

I have pointed this out numerous times, but Jim Fassel got allegedly blackballed by the Giants for far less shit than Sean Payton has pulled in his time in NO both on and off the field. Not to mention he was trying to orchestrate his way out of NO and to LA last off-season.
it's a game

it's supposed to be fun/entertainment. a lot of nfl fans say vile things to players and staff so I don't mind that they push back with some mockery.

I thought it was funny in 2011 when the Giants mocked Rodgers' discount double check during the divisional round. I personally started doing that to some annoying packers fans in the bar as the game turned into a rout.

I think its funny - he was ribbing back at the fans

Thats one of the great things about sports, fans and players communicating. I wish more coaches would interact with rowdy and loud fans

I guess Payton thought the game was over and lost his focus on the field of play. His players on defense seemed to think the game was over too. He’ll learn to next time wait until the game is over and then mock the fans. He’s obviously immensely talented as a play designer and he’s got balls of steel. But I think it’s also pretty clear that Payton is kind of a jerk.

I think Payton is a jerk and villain for not shutting down and attempting to cover up the bounty system that Williams ran - he clearly crossed the line. a little non-profane teasing of some fans on the road is nothing in comparison.
