FA OL options and CB, OLB and DE

MotownGIANTS : 1/16/2018 3:42 pm
(The OL needs Depth and Starters)
OT - http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018OT.php
OG - http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018G.php
C - http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018C.php

CB - http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018CB.php (Depth and potentially a starter)

OLB - http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018OLB.php (Still could use a stud at this level of the D)

DE - http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018DE.php (JPP replacement is needed)

This is more crucial and telling that what we do in the draft and drives the draft decisions to some degree. Are we forgoing any type of SB run this year by trying to fix the OL and adding a couple of pieces on D and giving it a go? I mean why not if we are going to stall the rebuild for Eli to be the starter.

How is Bridgewater's knee? Does Minny let him walk if CK goes to the SB ... Hell do the unthinkable and win it?!?!
Re-sign Cockrell
superspynyg : 1/16/2018 3:46 pm : link
That gives us four Jenkins-DRC-Apple-Cockrell. Then use a late draft pick on a cb.

OT is a no brainer if he hits the market Solder
G Norwell. No brainer
C re sign Brett Jones then draft a center if possible.
Here’s an interesting one!

Justin Pugh, G/OT, Giants. Age: 28.

Justin Pugh is one of the best guards in the NFL, but had to play out of his position at right tackle this year. He's a mediocre right tackle, but he needs to start in the interior to be most effective.

The FA OL
MotownGIANTS : 1/16/2018 4:05 pm : link
crop is not bad, not great but has options, IF Gettleman is going to be aggressive. Does Eli take a pay cut to try and go out on top? I think that is a conversation he would be receptive too. Yeah resigning our own CBs is not bad I would not mind that at all. Strengthen the LB (OLB) and DE options via the draft or a surprise FA move that is a value (not expected on the FA route). Eli has some gas left but he is not going to put the team on his back consistently enough anymore. He is a tier-1 game manager at this point that needs to pick his spots by being setup by his supporting cast.
We need Linebackers??
Jimmy Googs : 1/16/2018 4:07 pm : link
nah...
Pugh is talented
GiantsFanInFL : 1/16/2018 4:09 pm : link
And a good player, when he is on the field. Talent doesn't do us any good in the training room.
I know NYG was ready to draft Solder, not so sure of his value/health
JonC : 1/16/2018 4:12 pm : link
Wouldn't expect them to spend much via UFA on CB or DE. Two prime expensive positions where they have considerable talent already, they need to draft some depth to develop behind them.

At LB, BJ needs to prove he can stay healthy and they'll probably look for a WILL to pair up with Dennard, or another inexpensive SAM.

The best ability is availability.
Bradham, Hitchens possibilities on the outside
jeff57 : 1/16/2018 4:15 pm : link
Foster, Williamson possibilities on the inside.

They need a whole new set of starting LBs.
They should look at Solder and Penn for LT
jeff57 : 1/16/2018 4:16 pm : link
.
I look at a mediocre list of OL available
Biteymax22 : 1/16/2018 4:16 pm : link
and think that there isn't a lot of talent there to excite you.

Then the reality kicks in that a bunch of guys that are available would be better than who we currently have.

Need to resign Dennard first.
No thanks on Pugh
Rambo : 1/16/2018 4:43 pm : link
Cant stay healthy ever

They may not want to, thus the reference to signing another inexpensive SAM.
mmm
BleedBlue : 1/16/2018 4:52 pm : link
OL should be the priority since we are going QB or RB round 1.
draft barkley sign solder or norwell and develop webb another year if you dont think these QBs are worth it.
no way they sign a DE in UFA
giants#1 : 1/16/2018 4:53 pm : link
unless it's a Ayers type. And a top FA DE isn't going to want to come here anyway with Vernon and JPP already in the mix.

That said, if they don't love the QBs or if they do love Webb, then I wouldn't rule out Chubb.

re: CB - I'd re-sign Cockrell, but if they move on from DRC they still need another dependable CB (can't count on Apple as the #3).

OL - I'm not signing Pugh unless it's for a 1 year, "prove it" deal for like $5M. Very good player, but he can't stay healthy and you need continuity along the OL.

It's fascinating and annoying how often OTs get selected right before we are about to draft. Solder and Conklin are just two examples I can think of offhand.
Chris Hubbard
Breeze_94 : 1/16/2018 5:01 pm : link
from the Steelers is an intriguing guy. A bit unheralded, but he played well at RT when he was in the lineup and is young with some upside.

Penn is 34. I would be okay with Solder I guess, but he is 30 and has some injury issues
I like Preston Brown
twostepgiants : 1/16/2018 6:48 pm : link
He’s a middle LB but has 144 tackles. he’s 25. he’s all over field.

he can be this teams Michael Barrow or Antonio Pierce.

Yea he is underrated. Not flashy but he has been one of the leading tacklers over the last 4 years and is still young. Also worth noting that he can play any of the LB positions.
One of my favorite guards in the draft is Isaiah Wynn
Jay on the Island : 1/16/2018 8:30 pm : link
He plays LT for Georgia but he will have to move inside due to his lack of size. He would be a great pick on day two for the Giants.

They need as much help as they can get so Hubbard would be a good signing as depth. Let him compete with Flowers for the RT spot and if Flowers loses he should move inside to RG.
Hell No to Jones at Center
Bluesbreaker : 1/17/2018 2:05 pm : link
we need to add a power blocker so we don't have to throw
the ball for a yard .
