It's just an anecdote from one person who wasn't clearly super informed but I remember in some sports show one of the analysts when Coughlin was hired said "Coughlin's a fossil, the best hiring will be Jim Mora jr. with Atlanta". I think given the hand wringing about Pat Shurmur being the safe choice, this is sometimes what happens when you are in favor of the sexy non-safe choice over the safe choice.
