Interesting to go back and watch this to get a handle on Shurmur, even if it was 7 years ago.
He was one of 3 finalists for the Browns position. The other two? Mike Mularkey and Perry Fewell.
Hired by Holmgren, who seemed a little too ‘daddy figure’, you can get a sense of Shurmur as a person. Seems like a good man, and someone comfortable in his skin. Intelligent but grounded. I can see the serious bit, but he has moments of sarcasm and smiles.
He seems to be real and someone the players can respect, essentially what we have heard. He seemed nervous as first but I thought was well spoken the further along things went. I think there are 5 parts to this press conference.
Interesting to note that amongst the top people he thanked upon being introed was his family, Andy Reid and he seemed to be extra gracious toward Steve Spagnuolo. I would not be surprised at all if Spags is the D Coordinator after hearing his tenor in thanking him.
Overall, I’m thawing and think this may be a more underrated hire than we are giving credit. Holmgren and Heckert said they think he has the ‘it factor’ after being around other coaches like Don Shula, Jimmy Johnson, Andy Reid and others. That is high praise. Sad that Holmgren said Shurmur was the guy he wanted for longevity because if they turnover every 2 or 3 years they will never go anywhere... Mike must’ve had a crystal ball but he certainly contributed to the demise.
That said, get BB if even .01% possible, but if not we might look back and actually thank the stars for Shurmur, who no doubt has grown more since 2011.
We really have no other choice than to hope for that outcome.
Go Giants and General Shurmur.

That’s a major positive.
I watched that too haha, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be, actually more humorous than anything.
