Sorry for any incorrect info...
Would be interesting

To know how many of the six trade-ups were good moves.
Seemed to give up alot

For Funchess

Throughout the years
CB Bene Benwikere
WR Devin Funchess
OT Daryl Williams
CB Daryl Worley
G Taylor Moton

There's one player left from that 2014 draft.

Benjamin and Funchess
jbeintherockies : 1/16/2018 11:29 pm : link
They were the same type of players; same guys. Both were 6'5" and around 240 lbs. I think Gettleman was trying to get Newton big targets because Cam wasn't (isn't?) that accurate.
I'm sure if you went thru each team's last 5 drafts
theold5j : 1/16/2018 11:32 pm : link
You'll find a lot of similar records. The thing that hurts is missing on your 1st and 2nd rd picks. Those guys are supposed to be foundation players. That's where the giants have screwed up.

Pugh
Hankins
Odell
Richburg
Flowers
Collins
Apple
Shepard
Engram
Tomlinson

That's 5 years worth of 1st and 2nd rd picks. 7 of them were basically worthless this year.

Strong emphasis on the interior
GeorgeAdams33 : 1/17/2018 12:04 am : link
Drafts in clusters to attack a problem just like George Young did.
Finds starters
old man : 1/17/2018 12:11 am : link
even after round 2.
We need that desperately, for the next 2-3 particularly.
Need the homegrowns so you don't have to buy a defense...offense...whatever.
...
HitSquad : 1/17/2018 12:51 am : link
His ability to find offensive linemen has me optimistic.

Turner
Williams
Norwell

All above average to elite talents

Gettleman seems to have a pretty even distribution of positions, besides QB.

A friend from North Carolina said that Gettleman likes big receivers who block well for the run game.
I like it
DavidinBMNY : 1/17/2018 6:40 am : link
He targets players and types of players.

And Eli would do well with big WR with his tendency, since his college days, to miss high when he misses, which is probably exacerbated with age.

He is going to have a plan with the draft and it's clearly not going to be BPA plan. I think some trading we'll be done prior to the draft as well - most likely for OL help given his comments.
Also it's not going to hurt we will get a comp pick (4th?) for hankins
DavidinBMNY : 1/17/2018 7:06 am : link
I believe the only eligible player to count against hankins is Ellison and I believe that Newhouse would also be considered. Other players we signed had been released.

This is the first time, since trading comps was instituted (last yr?) that the Giants have a comp pick.

I'd expect a target player or 2 from DG.

For Funchess

While I agree, Funchess was pretty good this year, 840yds/8td's so maybe he just needed time to develop? I don't follow the panthers enough to know either way, but some WR's are slow starters (amani toomer?)
what would be refreshing is to
mdc1 : 1/17/2018 9:12 am : link
see picks that actually start and contribute to the team. Too much variation from the previous GM, good or bust and out of the NFL or worse.
I don't know who he is
Joey in VA : 1/17/2018 9:23 am : link
But we need to have Corn Elder on this team.

He’s also responsible for finding Mike Remmers. Carolina signed Remmers from the Ram’s PS and he became a very good starter for them which earned him a large contract from the Vikings this past offseason.

Oh, and Norwell from that year, is a pro bowl guard.

Are you asking what worthless means? It means they didn't do shit. They sucked. Didn't contribute.

So I guess we can look forward to the Giants trading UP in
ZogZerg : 1/17/2018 12:10 pm : link
this years draft. Sounds like if he likes someone, he goes and gets him.
Curious to see...
Giantfan in skinland : 1/17/2018 12:11 pm : link
if the Carolina WRs are his "type" or instead guys that he was taking to fit what they thought they needed down there based on system/QB. I hope not the former, as the lack of weapons in the passing game is probably what ultimately killed that team. Even so, the good news is that even if that's a weak spot for him, we already have Shepard and Engram, plus OBJ (at least for the near term)...so there's only but so much work he actually needs to do there in the near future.
I am not a fan of trading up
Jay on the Island : 1/17/2018 3:34 pm : link
But I won't criticize a GM for doing so in order to secure a player he really likes. Gettleman is more likely to trade to the #1 spot if Darnold much higher rated on the Giants board than the other QB's.
