BY many accounts he’s a strong coordinator, a “leader of men”, defensive orientation. I guess he’s a little less experienced than other candidates but the pedigree is strong and he seems like he’d be a good fit.
what kind of rabbit holes a loaded question like this causes?

The op asked why not interview

Not why not hire,
People assume negligence if not every stone is left unturned, even if Vrabel doesn't seem to meet the threshold to be considered as a candidate.
Why not interview Pepper Johnson? Mike Singletary? Phil Simms? Bring Dick Vermiel back again? Why not John Madden? Russ Grimm? Why not look at Pele to coach the kickers?
Why interview a candidate you aren’t serious about hiring for a position he’s not qualified for?
As a recruiter, sometimes you have a great candidate, and the client needs to be flexible. If they aren't sometimes you have to nudge them a little bit to get the guy in front of them, but once you do, you know that guy is going to a leave a good impression, or else you wouldn't have pushed to get him there.
I feel like Wilks was that candidate for us, and DG did the pushing, since he knows him personally.
Vrabel got very good reviews from his interviews with Detroit and Indianapolis.
Outside of LA, how hyped was McVay last year? Sometimes you reach for someone with upside. Maybe folks are right and he’s no yet ready. I think he was worth an interview.
The Mara Bros have decided that since Handley and McAdoo were such a disasters that they will never hire another Head Coach that wasn't a Head Coach before or a very long time coordinator.

Because they've not heard of a guy, they think he's hardly known in actual football circles.
And on the flip side, if they've heard of someone, they think that guy is immediately qualified.
Just look at Steve Wilks. Guy is a relative unknown to fans, but has a good rep with his peers. Nobody here knew of him until he was mentioned as a possible candidate - then simply because they didn't know him, he automatically has a high ceiling where guys like Shurmur are just safe, boring choices.
Basically, whether fans have heard of somebody or not is rarely reflective of their ability.
I think the interest in him is too soon. Let him get some seasoning first as a coordinator...and some material results.
Football people rave about him.
And even if that wasn't a barrier, his first year running a defense was awful by any measure. Any reason why people think he's going to be good?

You still have yet to answer the question - which football people?

Louis Riddick is one mainstream name you may or not be familiar with .

Feel free to link a source whenever you'd like. Until then, it's yet another dennyism.
