Should the Giants target Jarvis Landry?

+20 other things need the Giants attention

He's trouble. Started a fight in one game with the Bills that should have gotten him suspended for a game.

Put the money into the OL, the LBs, and the secondary instead.

Considering what Beckham is going to command and our other needs that would be a disproportionate amount of our salary going towards receivers.

Shepard, and Engram...signing Landry would be a pretty bad delegation of resources imo

Not that I watch Miami much, but Landry seems to do a lot of his best work from the slot.

He's a hothead and has shown he'll come unglued. Got to watch how many like him you choose to pour into the same locker room.

Not a guy you want to add to the locker room, and not a position where we want to add cost.

Landry has been one of the most productive WR's in the entire sport over the last 4 seasons. He's going to get paid a lot of money. Between he and Odell, we'd be investing a massive portion of our resources in the WR position when we need a lot of help elsewhere.

Pay Beckham, not both.

Jarvis is too similar to Sheppard and more of a slot guy. I really want the Giants to bring in a taller, bigger bodied WR to complement Shep and Beckham. I don't care if its through the draft or FA. I really hoped Marshall was going to be that guy last year but he played not to get hurt. He should be embarrassed by his effort.

Like NE (NOT). Forget size bring in players that can play. That being said a lot of dead wood would have to go to make this happen. Our 2 DE’s are taking up a huge amount of our CAP.

Jordan Mathews but that might be a lot of money tied up in the WR position assuming the plan is to resign Beckham and cut Marshal.

I think it does raise an interesting question whether we need to spend big money on a # 2 receiver. Again, assuming Beckham is resigned and Marshal is released, you have Beckham, Engram, and Shephard as a receiving trio. Will there be enough touches for a new #2 to warrant such an outlay of cash?

If Shurmur is the guy, having a traditionally "big/tall" X receiver will matter less - you don't really need one in his offense.

Diggs plays this role now and he's only 6' tall.

Doesn't mean we couldn't use one - but it would be more imperative if we were going to be running an Air Coryell offense, which we won't be with Shurmur.

Would rather spend the money on Beckham and sign a vet and/or draft another WR on day 2.

Is a big tall receiver they are calling a TE. Shurmur will use him more like a receiver(guess). I think the Giants would great with Engram, Ellison, Shepard, Beckham, FB that can block and catch a screen pass plus a big RB with the speed to score from a distance..

Ellison is actually better suited to play the traditional TE role for Shurmur - but there's no doubt he's going to get Engram out there in space often and make use of his ability.

The key is that you want to keep Engram in as many TE matchups as you can because that's where he presents the biggest mis-match.

Sure, we'll line him up wide - they do this often with Kelce in KC - but you want to get him isolated on guys at the second level in the middle of the field where he's just too fast for those players to cover.

And his cost will be too high. I'd rather allocate the big WR dollars to OBJ than to Landry.

He does what Shepard does making him not worth what he will cost on the market (He'll probably make $10,000,000 more than Shepard will next year) and yes he is a better talent than Shepard but only by a small margin but his character makes that margin even smaller...

I like Landry he can make big plays in the slot, not much on the outside but he also brings value as a return man but that's a BIG PASS for me assuming he wants big time 10-15 MIL per year type money

Good return guy and great YAC guy. MUCH better player then Shepard but we have Shepard and we have way more important needs then a slot receiver.

He'll command a lot of money, and I think the Giants need a WR with size to line up opposite Odell. We also know that DG likes big wides, so I doubt Landry would be a target for him.

I don't know about that. Landry led the NFL in catches this year. Albeit, he's not a downfield/big play guy and his YPR numbers are paltry. He's still a good player, though - and I think he's a better slot WR than Shepard.

He did find the endzone more this year than he has in the past, which was a knock on his production before.

Landry is a more explosive Steve Smith (NYG), IMO

FWIW, I think Shepard provides much better value (well, he will once Landry is paid)

But 1:1, I'd prefer Landry if I had a choice.

Thing that amuses me is the "me centric" aspect of value in the NFL and contracts. They should start defining playoff appearances, wins, plays that result in points as measures in their compensation. My friend,Shepard is better then Landry? You either aren't serious or you don't watch the Dolphin games. I live down in South Florida so I watch almost all their games and I assure you, Landry is not only better then Shepard but the difference is significant. Landry does EVERYTHING better then Sterling. If Shepard was a free agent this season there is no question that Landry would command more money,

Marty....I’ll place my bet on Shepard. Landry does nothing for me. Number of catches? An overrated stat. Shepard is a tougher cover. And he has more upside.

I’d also bet on Miami letting him walk. And his free agent contract won’t be anything close to what he expects to make. He’s not a number 1.

The reason Treadwell was only used on 45% of snaps is because he's been inconsistent to downright terrible. With different personnel, Shurmur may adapt the formations.

Contrast that with McAdoo who had Ellison play less than 40% of snaps, not because of talent, but because the system blew.

This free agent WR class doesn't look great anyway and upgrading the offensive line will take money.

He is like a blue collar Beckham. Yea, he's an excitable guy, but I dont see him as a penalty or fine waiting to happen. I dont see Beckham that way either.
They want as many good WRs as they can get. Marshall was supposed to be that tough yardage, possession/red-zone receiver, but for whatever reason, that never panned out in that miserable season that just passed. Likely the Giants would still be looking for a tall, tough, WR, like a Devin Funchess or Dez Bryant, dare I say. Marshall was supposed to fill that role, and Engram will be that from a TE/WR position, which is nice, but they should get a tall big guy who is tough and makes catches that move the sticks. They dont grow on trees, but hey, if somehow a Jarvis Landry fits into the Giants budget, then I'm all for it, but that seems unlikely.

Much better option. A great fit with Beckham and Shepard.
