Giants vs Steeler 2008 one of my favorite reg season games

NYBEN1963 : 1/17/2018 1:48 pm
Snow day for me here in VA so I found this classic on youtube.Without question one of my favorite regular games of all-time...these Giants were Bad asses
Top 5 regular season game - ( New Window )
one of mine too! That was a real throwback game. a neanderthal
Victor in CT : 1/17/2018 1:50 pm : link
slugfest. I really thought that was the SB preview.
I was stuck in an airport during that game
Jay on the Island : 1/17/2018 1:51 pm : link
But i was able to watch it in the waiting area. That was a great game and I want this team to get back to being a physical and tough team.
*sigh*
bLiTz 2k : 1/17/2018 1:52 pm : link
I still cant believe the Giants beat both SB participants on their own turf that year and got knocked out the way they did.

F'ing Plaxico.

Add to that we even beat all 4 of the participants in the AFC/NFC Championship games too - Pitt/Balt & Ariz/Phil

Man, that was the team ...
haha

The first 12 games of 2008 the Giants

were as good as the 80's teams. Didn't last though.
I was at that game!

I don't go to many games but I have been to every Giants vs Steelers games since Eli and Ben were drafted, in NJ and in Pittsburgh

That Season was a lot like 1990. Dominant thru the first 10 or so weeks. Every one expecting Super Bowl. Then stumble. Key injury. The 1990 team got it's groove back. 2008 didn't. Went out with a whimper against Philly. Still very disappointing.

Where there many Giants fans there?
The rookie LB Bryan Kehl Had a great game that day
DennyInDenville : 1/17/2018 2:20 pm : link
Including a nice interception.. guy had nice physical tools. He was basically another Boley but Boley was the guy in front of him and Coughlin didn't like Kehl
That was a dominant team
Jim in Forest Hills : 1/17/2018 2:20 pm : link
I really thought back to back was going to happen. They were scaring teams.
Kenny Phillips also flashed that game
DennyInDenville : 1/17/2018 2:22 pm : link
He was Brent alexanders sub to start that year ..

That week we unleashed KP and he played like a mega stud
should

remember slightly losing my voice screaming at the tv because of all the holding the Steeler DBs were getting away with. Regardless this is the 2nd most physical Giant game I've seen IMO (the 1st being the 2011 NFC championship game). This is among a handful of regular season games I'd love to see in its entirety again

That's the difference between Head Coaches. One could adjust one could not.
Saw that game..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/17/2018 2:32 pm : link
in Vegas. Made a ton on the game and then won big at poker that night, sporting my Eli jersey.

Just goes to show how quickly a season can turn.

Just depressing when you look back at it.

So Coughlin, who took two non-dominant teams to Super Bowl titles, couldn't make adjustments?

So many fucked up takes here.

Brent Alexander? Try again.
It's crazy too

How everyone thought we'd still be OK without Plaxico. Including me. Of course when you take away a 6'6" athletic veteran wide out and replace him with Domenik Hixon it changes the offense.
This game
NYBEN1963 : 1/17/2018 3:03 pm : link
was an absolute street fight..this should have been the Superbowl
I went to that game
Bramton1 : 1/17/2018 3:11 pm : link
Gd, it was great walking out of the stadium after that game. Helluva lot better than leaving Heinz Field after the 2016 game.

Beat the Steelers and the Cardinals on the road that season. I'm still convinced that if Plaxico doesn't shoot himself, we go to the Super Bowl.
the 4th and 1
NYBEN1963 : 1/17/2018 3:22 pm : link
that turned into 4th and 6 is one of my favorite Eli Manning moments..especially making Troy Aikman eat shit.
Plax was such a unique weapon with that wingspan and height
Victor in CT : 1/17/2018 3:25 pm : link
but he was also strong as an ox and a great downfield blocker.

NYBNE, so true about Aikman having to eat shit. A hidden highlight.

I remember Phillips' play in that game. During one play he came out of nowhere to break up a pass. I remember watching the replay and just saying "wow," I thought we had the league's next superstar FS. It's a shame the knee didn't hold up.
I was there too

Only seen 2 Giant away games - and this was one of them- sunny November crisp day. Great game - and I didn't see too many giants fans. I wore only a throwback giants baseball cap - the steeler fans were 1st class. We were the defending champs after all -and we won the game.
Pre Plaxico shooting
Jints in Carolina : 1/17/2018 3:48 pm : link
that was one of the most dominant Giants teams I had ever seen. We could beat anybody.

Sigh.....we should have repeated.

My bad I was off.. it was Butler and .. ?? I'm drawing a blank man damn . Michael Johnson that's right just had to look it up
My favorite part of that game was James Harrison's brief
Bramton1 : 1/17/2018 4:00 pm : link
career as a long snapper.
Troy in good form referring to KP as
PSIMMS 22-25-268 : 1/17/2018 4:36 pm : link
"the safety" when analyzing the 3d down blitz by Webster necessitating the need for an open field tackle by KP on the Steelers' penultimate drive.

There are usually not a lot of away fans at Steelers games, They are all season ticket holders so you have to buy tickets on the secondary markets. On top of that Steeler fans buy those tickets on the secondary markets. Luckily I am one of the few Giants fans here so usually someone calls me and asks if I want to go with them or buy their tickets for cost. Or I call people I know that have tickets and ask them way in advance since it is every 4 years.
Memorable game and

this game was incredible

all time classic
I remember Phillips separating
St. Jimmy : 1/17/2018 6:55 pm : link
Mendenhall from a pass along the sideline. It was a perfectly timed hit and they flagged him for it. That was BS. I remember eating a bunch of hazelnuts after a few beers during the game and having the worst heartburn of my life.
Bryan Kehl had an interception off a deflection in this game
lawguy9801 : 1/17/2018 9:27 pm : link
Maybe his only highlight as a Giants.
I was at that game
Gman11 : 1/17/2018 9:39 pm : link
The snap over the punter's head turned the game around.
I remember calling my brother after that game and saying
Jimmy Googs : 1/17/2018 9:58 pm : link
there is no reason we shouldn't repeat.

whoops...
That game includes one of the best examples
Enoch : 1/17/2018 10:10 pm : link
of why I really enjoyed the Coughlin-Gilbride offense: The 4th&short deep sideline pass to a diving Amani Toomer.

A sideline go route is a terrible thing to run on 4th&short, but the defense showed press-man coverage outside with no deep help, so that was the "correct" read for both the WR and QB. And, on that play, it was beautiful.

(It mars the moment only slightly that NYG couldn't punch it in from the 5 and settled for a short FG on the drive.)
Slobber knocker!
trueblueinpw : 1/17/2018 10:11 pm : link
Olde time football! What a fucking great game! I knew the Giants were the best in the NFL after this game. Haven’t seen a Giants team like that since - well - that game I guess.
The play I mentioned

Great game

honorable mention for me was the Ravens game where they had not given up a 100 yard rusher in a couple of years and the giants ran for over 250 and almost had TWO 100 yd rushers!
