With last nights loss to a very bad, short-handed Grizzlies team is pretty evident that this Knicks team isn't going anywhere.
I'll start off with shitty non-call on the KP steal. The shitty looseball call on KP. The tech on Lee was one of the worst I have ever seen.
Derek Staffords take on the tech:
Playing Kanter and Jack serious minutes together is asking to get scored on. I'd sit Jack, start Frank, Burke back him up. Insert Beasley into the starting lineup over LFT.
No point in firing Hornacek now, might as well re-evaluate after the season, but I pray this FO has a vision and looks to trade anything they can and get the best pick possible. Even if Kanter opts in, that's fine also.
I've been saying this since Game 1 of the season, we are the worst at defending 3's. And we suck at taking 3's. We are running an archaic offense right now.
It's easier to ask him to stay down low then to chase out 3 pointers, seeing how he's 7'3 and looks disinterested in doing so.

KP will get a crapload of blocks playing the 4 and helping on defense. The problem is we will get destroyed on the boards and second chance points unless we have a 4 that is real strong on the boards and defense.

I understand that, but you need to look at the other side of the coin.
1. Do we really want KP banging with 5's all game long?
2. Our rebounding is going to take a big hit. Look at how Kanter cleans up the glass next to KP.
3. Our perimeter defense will be better, but our interior defense will most certainly be worse, depending on who you have at the 4.
His instinct is rim protection. He's block-hawking down low which then leads to his man being left open behind the 3. And he can't chase out on the perimeter.
But I'm okay with him interchanging between the 4 and 5 based on matchups.
Yeah, trade everyone that you can that's not KP, Frank or Willy. Accumulate as many picks as possible.
Frank for as much as he gives on defense, anything on offense he gives is a plus. He's pretty much LFT out there on the offense.
Not sure thats wise. With the season only half over his minutes are already nearly double what hes ever played before. Hes showing signs of burnout as it is.
However, it is enough with the big minutes to the veterans that are not part of the future, but the problem is that Hornacek is coaching to keep his job.
I feel like every time I see KP lunge and have a bad defensive effort on a 3, it's made even worse because that means he's not going to be down low in position for the rebound. I think it's alright to start trading away some of these picks. But you have to be able to get a future or low 1st for at least one of these guys. O'Quinn, Beasley, McDerrmott can all be gone for future considerations or young players on reasonable deals. I think Kanter should only be traded if they get a nice return.
to a degree, Frank will improve on both but Jack is what he is
these problems are made even more obvious when the NYK allocate 30+ minutes (combined) to talentless hacks like Thomas and Baker
Of much greater concern is the trade market, the development of Ntilikina, Hornacek's idiocy and IF the franchise has any sort of coherent plan to build a contender.
I don't know exactly how Player Efficiency Rating is computed, but per ESPN, Beasley's PER is 19.8, up with the team leaders, and Thomas' is 6.1, lowest on the team.

NBA's last 2-minute report said loose-ball foul on Porzingis with 25 seconds left was correct call. But Grizzlies should have been called for 5-second violation on side out of bounds. ... And Lee should have been called for a foul on Evans before jump ball.
Fixing this team starts with
1. Getting a top five lottery pick
2. Trading Lee and Oquinn and Kanter and hopefully Thomas
3. Getting fucking Rambis out of here. Hes done nothing for this defense since hes been here
4. Firing Hornacek for delaying development of Hernangomez and for including Lance in the rotation and for his idiotic rotations
