Is it possible in this day and age you can’t go into an opposing teams stadium, wearing your teams colors, without the threat of being injured or killed?
You don't even have to go to the game at the Linc. Just go to any downtown Philly sports bar and you'll get harassed the entire time. I remember I was in philly once and wore a NYG t-shirt to a sports bar (NYG weren't even playing the eagles that day) and I heard if from the people there.
I wore colors to the 2006 playoff game at the Linc.... Â
threatened. I'm not a little guy, either. It takes everything in my power to not get arrested and I stay to myself, don't talk shit or gloat. Its just an ugly dynamic. Only other stadium I've been to that remotely compares is Buffalo and it pales in comparison.
I grew up in Bethlehem, but my uncle had season tickets and until recently I'd go to a preseason game and every giants game. There hasn't been one time where I (not wearing gear but my family thought it fun to tell everyone I'm a giants fan) or another fan hasn't been threatened by a mob. The tix are in the 300 level in the endzone; used to be the infamous 700 level at the Vet. It's hard not to be enraged by what goes down there so I stopped going about 4 years ago. The article may be a bit silly, but the advice is correct. It's why I much prefer going to a college game. The atmosphere is much better
is most Eagles' fans are proud of their bad reputation.
I lived in Maryland from 2000-2005 and I would go to sports bars almost every sunday to watch football. I was surrounded by people from Pennsylvania and I became friends with some and often went to Pennsylvania to visit and met their friends. They really do love their scum bag reputation. I have never seen anything like it in my life. Almost every Sunday I would see at least one or two drunk Eagles fans trying to pick a fight with some random guy. It often began with the Eagles fan screaming their brilliant E A G L E S chant in the poor guys face. Once at a Green Turtle I witnessed an eagles fan punch a guys girlfriend in the face. She literally was just standing there with her boyfriend who was talking back to the Eagles fan and things got heated and he just punched this girl in the face. I was in shock.
I thought Redskins fans were bad with their undeserving arrogance and the feeling that the Skins are superior to every other team. The only fan base that is worse is probably the Oakland Raiders.
That billboard near Philly doesn't lie. That drunk jackass who punched the horse probably thought he was Alex Karras from Blazing Saddles. Could you imagine if the Eagles lost that game?
When the Eagle fan base was radically loyal and verbal, but not a threat to visiting fans.
The lore of the Eagle fan base and the publicity has motivated that base to evolve into something all together different from what it once was.
My kids go to the Giants game every year. They are not shy young men, nor are they frail or timid. They love that stadium, but are very reticent during the game. They might wear a Giants hat, but take that off when exiting the stadium
from late 80s to late 90s and always wore my Giants gear. Some people thought I was nuts. I always tried to get seats as close as possible to the field, down with the old ladies. They never hurt me too badly.
With every row you got further from the field, the less civilized it got. I think the 700 level was like a scene from Mad Max.
Lead paint was used extensively in the Philly area as well, they use Â

I went to the Eli to Plax OT game at the Linc 11 years ago Â
I was 17. I wore an Eli jersey. I can deal with friendly banter but I was legit scared that day. I was respectful all game and yet I had Beers thrown on me, spit on not just by a guy but a woman too, and had grown men screaming at me not even an inch away from my face. Luckily a kind eagle fan advised me not to go to the bathroom because I'd get pissed on...
I look back and it was an awesome game but I did not enjoy that day one bit.
I went to a sports bar in Raleigh NC...i live in Durham...to see a big game vs Eagles there was a huge group of eagle punks yelliin cursing like sailors, I had on my giants jersey
cheering with my wife...Giants pulled it out in the end and as I was leaving one punk threw popcorn on my back....bottom line I turn and beat the shit out him and left quickly with my wife never to return for fear the cops would be waiting on me next time...the next couple of yrs directv came out and that was history for sports bars.
after Strahans pick six in OT in 1999. Two average teams that year, yet I was harassed all the way to my vehicle. They are a special breed down in Philly.
theres no two ways about it, wearing opposing teams colors into that place is a stupid thing to do. stupid. youre asking for trouble you dont need. why do it? because its a public place and you "should" be able to wear whatever you want and be fine as long as you myob? thats not reality. dumb.

My brother went to a game down there in 1990. The game Bavaro got thrown out for bumping the official. Giants were 10-0 and got killed that day. He didn't wear any colors either and still says to this day he was scared to death. He's convinced "they" knew he was a Giants fan. Said the tension was palpable...
I'd go but would not wear any gear. Why bother. I did wear nyg gear to the black hole in 1998 but the raider fans were cool. Didn't hurt that the Giants lost. First play from scrimmage napoleam Kaufman takes it 80 yards to the house.
even if it is AFC opponent - wearing Giants Colors/jerseys. I just don't want to deal with that 5% drunk morons who are looking for trouble. The majority of the opposing crowds are respectful ... etc .. but, there is that element that is at every away game. Why give them an excuse?
in the 12 or so years I lived in the philthy area. Giants were 10-0. But I had one of those Nostradumbass moments. I foresaw the Giants getting spanked. Glad I didn't waste my money or risk my life going to that one.
I'll be 4 deep with 4 of my heavyweights ....obtw those f-ers
hunt trouble...2 just let out of prison... like Mills Lane use to say " let's get it on " we'll cool their ass off.
I never thought twice about wearing my Giants colors Â
You read that right.
He was arrested.

Oh well, I survived.
