Watching the Continental Cup tonight and decided to have a little fun. Here's my personal preview of what should be a hotly contested Olympic tournament again this year. Hope you enjoy.
Rachel Homan, Skip Team Canada
First Olympic appearance for this proven champion. She calls a fearless game, but can be heavy handed at times. The betting and my personal favorite for this year's games. Voted Most Likely to be Passive Aggressive by Canadian Twitter. Personal quote: "Eat, pray, curl "
Emma Miskew, Team Canada
Emma the Enforcer. Doesn't take crap from anyone on, or off the ice. Likes to hit, so leave her the shot. Lots of pressure on these rookies after Canada taking Gold in 2014. Personal quote "I'm not your buddy, guy."
Anna Hasselborg, Skip Team Sweden
New leader of the Swed's team after they took Silver in 2014. She has led Team Sweden to 2 consecutive silver medals in the European Curling Championships. Easy touch on the rock and VERY easy on the eyes. Practices her sweeping in the summers by churning butter.
Favorite place to eat: "I don't know, where do you want to go."
Chinami Yoshida: Vice skip, Japan
The Japanese girls are looking for a happier ending than last Olympics. Japan's team is known for precision geometry on the ice. As well as the big advantage of a language no other teams can freaking understand. Many attribute Chinami's superior sweeping success to her patented "kung-fu" grip.
Favorite leisure activities: "K-Pop karaoke, photography or watching Full Metal Jacket"
Nina Roth: Skip USA (Pictured Far left along with the rest of Team USA)
2 time US National Champion, and biggest M.I.L.C of team USA (Member I'd Like to Curl with) takes over the underdog national team for these games. Coming off a last place 1-9 record in Sochi these women are going to have to work harder than most at it to succeed. "Realistically we're about 7/10, but if we can get a little hot and into the tournament this team can make a run" says team USA coach.
Anna Sloan, Great Britian
While the youngest of todays group at 26, she comes with lots of experience. Anna made a few key in-curls to win the bronze medal in 2014. "Pringles", as her team mates call her is known for her mouth. And not because of her thick Scottish accent, but because she can fit a can of Pringles in there.
Alexandra Saitova, Russia
Honestly, I have no idea if she is competing this year. Also snowboards, I guess.
Dr. Andrea Schoop, Germany
Nickname: Broom Breaker
A lot remains a mystery for Team Germany this time around. She's been voted "Best Personality" and "Hey Cool Necklace" in prior games by a poll of over 40 female Olympians. Spends her summers studying statics and working out with the German National Softball team. (Luckily we won't have to see Germany as they failed to quailify I just realized.) When asked about an ideal first date: "You feed me courses of pickled herring and some American dancing. Then back to my place for watching Porky's 2 on VHS and I showing you my 'Broom-breaker' grip."
Who are your favorites? Any sleepers I missed?
My Picks: Sweden takes Gold over hometown S.Korea. US pulls an upset over Canada for bronze. U S A! U S A!
This year will also have a mixed doubles tournament for the first time.
:)
The defense still rests.
Looking at the Russian again and I think she's flawless. There were other pictures I came across of hers that were definitely NSFW. I figured better be safe than sorry.
