His athletic abilities are off the charts, but his passing game seems average. Does he have what it takes to play QB at the next level and if so, would he be available with our second round pick? I'm seeing him projected all over the place.
Saquon Barkley (if we get him with the second pick) and Jackson in an offense with OBJ and Engram would be tantalizing and I'd imagine a nightmare for DCs. His mobility would be a big plus for a weak OL and should open things up downfield. I'm sure our coaches can help him avoid big hits and learn to slide when possible.
Fire away!
Cam Newton isn't elite?
I think RG3 had a hero complex and as a result consistently placed himself in a situation where he could get hurt. I think QBs like Jackson could learn from RG3 and benefit. Now whether he can overcome bad mechanics and footwork...not sure. But RG3 had a pretty amazing rookie year and if he stayed healthy and continued to develop...who knows where he would be today.
He can be a pistol QB , he can run an option offense
I would love to have him as a second QB / RB / WR in the same backfield with another QB
Just think the havoc that would created by shifting into alternative looks
That's the issue. If injuries happen, mobile QB's lose the edge that they have over the rest of the field.

like Lamar Jackson not become elite NFL quarterbacks before we conclude that guys like Lamar Jackson won't become elite NFL quarterbacks?

Are you seriously comparing him to 6'5", 245 lbs. Cam Newton?

Front office guys also thought Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder were top 15 qbs
Lol +1

our style.
I'm not sure what style our currently non-existant coaching staff runs.
Convinced we're taking Josh Allen, linebacker from Wyoming in the 3rd, sorry.
FFS!
Lamar is amazing. Bill Polian is a dinosaur. Wish the Giants had the balls to draft him.

Russel Wilson than rg3. Jackson when protection breaks down keeps his eyes upfield and progress through is receivers.
In 4 years, Wilson ran for 1200 yards.
In 3 years, Jackson ran for 4,100 yards!
Jackson is much closer to Vick in that he takes off frequently and effectively. But he can also throw in the pocket. That's where RGIII had issues. No pocket ability to fall back on once he was injured.
I don't put a lot of stock in Kiper or McShay's opinions, but Polian has a phenomenal track record so his viewpoint should carry a lot of weight.
I think he needs to move to WR, and the sooner the better

Ouch. Lol
Vick had his struggles throwing accurately at first, but he still was a dangerous threat his first years in the league. Who knows how good he could have been without the dog fighting. He was pretty damn good that one year in Philly.
Jackson is like Vick but he runs even tougher. If the coaches think Jackson is the guy in a trade down scenerio, then I'm all in for it.
As for Cam Newton he had his one year of glory and did not win the big one. As he ages and his size starts to work against him the year of glory will become unrealistic to repeat. No Cam is not elite he might be the best running QB in history of the NFL but his passing game leaves much to be desired.
In other words, he is a bit of a project, but his athleticism alone makes him a first rounder, IMO.

Bill Polian also spent five picks in one draft on 3 centers and two tight ends. He thought Landry Jones was the best QB in his class. He thought Aj Mccaron was better than anyone in last years class
I think he needs to move to WR, and the sooner the better
Josh Allen should be moving to tight end then

You aren't going to get me supporting Allen...But I do think Allen has much more arm talent than Jackson. Whatever though I don't like both as a 1st round QB
I would imagine that's a sign that NFL scouts view him like Sy
Where?
Compared to Allen whose mechanics and decision among were poor Jackson had a notably compactnquick delivery , largely good decision among and to me most impressive quiet feet in the pocket. The evaluator. Was very impressed with his ability to focus downfield , and not bail early, to have his feet set/ reset quickly and deliver with zip . He did. It comment overmuch on accuracy but thought it was good and could get better . Others, I know , have commented on his lack of accuracy.

I think based on this film review he should not be dismissed readily -
Saw that video when Terps posted it. BBI posters would really be doing themselves a favor by watching it. There are about 15-20 posts on Jackson in this thread that are just wrong.
Plus do all these Jackson should play WR people know if he can catch? I’d take by chances on developing him into a QB than trying to turn him into something he’s never been

Do you type with your toes?
If Jackson can protect his body, play under center and from the pocket, read defenses, and go through his progressions, I'm interested.
I think the reason is Jackson won't be a schlub at WR. He could be an impact player. It doesn't make sense to have an impact player at 3rd string QB. However, the decision is ultimately Jackson's to make. If his passion is to play QB, then he needs to make it perfectly clear that a position change is off the table. And more power to him if this is what he chooses. Teams need to draft accordingly, however.

Thanks for the link. That was pretty insightful.
And teams routinely bench rookie QBs while looking to build such value....so...
