Lamar Jackson

John in Loudoun : 1/19/2018 9:06 am
His athletic abilities are off the charts, but his passing game seems average. Does he have what it takes to play QB at the next level and if so, would he be available with our second round pick? I'm seeing him projected all over the place.

Saquon Barkley (if we get him with the second pick) and Jackson in an offense with OBJ and Engram would be tantalizing and I'd imagine a nightmare for DCs. His mobility would be a big plus for a weak OL and should open things up downfield. I'm sure our coaches can help him avoid big hits and learn to slide when possible.

Fire away!

yea ...123 punt
One of the knocks on Josh Rosen is his frame,
Mr. Bungle : 1/19/2018 2:34 pm : link
which is 6'4", 218. And Rosen is a prototypical pocket passer.

Lamar Jackson's frame is 6'3", 213. And he'd be running A LOT. And getting hit A LOT. By NFL defenders.

If you want Lamar Jackson, you need to attach your backup quarterback preference, too. Because you're going to need a good one sooner than later.

Derek Carr: 6-2, 215
Kirk Cousins: 6-3, 214
Andy Dalton: 6-2, 210
Lamar Jackson: 6-3, 212

Derek Carr was hurt this year. Cousins and Dalton aren't running quarterbacks.

Not sure what your point is.
And Dalton is 220 lbs..

Jackson missed zero games in three years

The concerns about durability are based completely on the experiences of other quarterbacks, and not his own.
You'd be nutz not to bring the kid in for

A look see.

Especially as possibly a lower pick.

Could open up trade down as an option (if it's not one already).

As for system... Pshaw. If he is the real deal you adjust.

In fact here is how Jackson compared to the 1st round runningbacks last year in carries per game over their carries. All while having a "slight frame" and never missing a game.

Mccaffery 17.22 cpg
Mixon 12 cpg
Fournette 19.25 cpg
Jackson 17.24 cpg
Heck

I like J T Barrett better than Jackson after all this QB stuff watch Barrett might be the best of them all ....pretty good college QB
Just the thought of this is tantalizing..

Can you imagine on 1st down the idea of a RPO with Jackson taking the snap, Barkley behind him and OJ and Engram releasing? Jiminy crickets, both the QB and RB are faster than all your LBs.
You can get by in college being a "run first" type QB
PatersonPlank : 1/20/2018 2:12 pm : link
not in the pro's, they get killed. You need to be a pocket passer #1. Then if you can run a bit thats icing on the cake. Proof is you see lots of great pocket guys around, and some great guys who can do both (like Rogers and Wilson), but zero run first guys. Vick, RG3, Kaep, etc. just can't cut it against NFL defenses.

From what I have seen Jackson has accuracy issues that may prevent him from becoming an NFL pocket passer.

It is below average.

I think he needs to move to WR, and the sooner the better

I heard that teams wanted to see him workout as QB and WR during the combine. His body type reminds me of a WR than QB. But I am interested to see if he can play WR, not for us, but in general
