Tom Brady's Injured Hand

pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 9:28 am
is anyone following this story?

So typical Patriots.

Brady left Wednesday's practice after allegedly colliding with a teammate on a handoff.

he went for x-rays.

He cancelled he media appearances the past two days.

hasn't thrown a pass in practice since Tuesday.

has been seen wearing a glove at practice but nor participating.

Belichick being Belichick about it with reporters.

Strange story.

Patriots being the Patriots? Or is there something to it?

media consensus here in Boston is Brady possibly has stitches in his throwing hand.
PJ....
BillKo : 1/19/2018 9:32 am : link
..is it getting national attention?

I haven't been reading, or watching things like NFL Network.

Seems like HUGE story when the best QB left isn't practicing.
No
pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 9:38 am : link
that's the baffling thing. the Patriots are so tight-lipped about injuries, I've only been seeing local attention from Patriots beat writers.
No worries,

I sure Belichick will give a honest, precise, and fully detailed report on the injury.

The NFL Network has been all over it - with speculation as no one is letting in on Brady's actual condition. I'm not buying it. Just a distraction and to get Brady out of the media. The Jags aren't buying it either. Doug said that Tom could throw the ball left handed and still be the GOAT.

Gets hurt every post season, then goes out and plays like nothing is wrong, the Pats play games and everyone buys in, then Belechick is a genius, maybe there are too many idiots and gullible ones at that.
Tedy Bruschi
pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 9:53 am : link
says there should be concern. He didn't offer much more information than that, but he'd know more than most of the talking heads I'd think.
I'm not saying he won't play
pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 9:54 am : link
or that he won't be 100% but the charade is mysterious and they're taking it to great lengths.

his thumb looks bulky here in this glove and he hasn't thrown a pass since Tuesday.

Looks like a splint under there.

speculated stitches, but probably a splint. Not sure I've seen a QB get stitches handing off the ball.
I say it's more Patriots gamesmanship
mikeinbloomfield : 1/19/2018 10:17 am : link
Wasn't Brady on the injury report for like a year once? They have gotten in trouble for manipulating the injury report before (saying guys weren't likely to play, then they play).
Yeah,
Giants in 07 : 1/19/2018 10:20 am : link
That's a splint.

I tend to root for the Pats (As the Pats legacy grows, Eli's legacy grows), but it would be hysterical to see Tom Coughlin and Blake Bortles beat them
It's very possible Patriots gamesmanship
pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 10:23 am : link
but Brady did get x-rays, hasn't thrown a pass, he's been at practice, but has not participated since Tuesday, and he's canceled his media appearances.

to what end?

Jacksonville says "Yes, no Brady" and prepares the exact same defense for Hoyer?

Not sure I the point of orchestrating it all if fake. Doesn't change a thing if I'm Jacksonville. Not like Brady is mobile or runs the wild cat.

So you can run with the conspiracies, for now I'll believe Brady jammed his thumb and it's possible he has issues gripping or throwing the ball unless I see him do it today, tomorrow or in warmups Sunday.
Injury was intentional
mac attack : 1/19/2018 10:29 am : link
Brady needed a bone sticking out of his hand so there would be another spot to put this year's ring.
It's not gamesmanship as far as the fact he
ZogZerg : 1/19/2018 10:31 am : link
did something to his hand. They aren't making that up.
How badly his hand is no one really knows.

NFL Network is all over this. I consider them "National Media".

It will be interesting to see if he practices today. He HATES missing practice.

Jags need to smash that hand early and often!!

Your last point should be a serious concern for Tom. Sacksonville not only goes for the sack, but they go for the ball for the strip-sack. Fowler, Malik, Calais, and Yannick all get in there and are swinging the hammer. Even if they don't bring Tom down, all they need to do is keep hitting the hand and get the turnovers.
Cant his trainer fix it?
trueblueinpw : 1/19/2018 1:20 pm : link
Didnt TB12 and his trainer come under some scrutiny recently for publishing a book that suggested football injuries were cause by poor nutrition, diet and doing the wrong excercises? Maybe Brady should wrap his hand in some kale or something?

pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 1:39 pm : link
I was up here since 1998, and lived in CT my whole life before that.

In 1993 I was early in college and had a roommate from Natick, MA. He had season tickets but no car. He'd beg me every Sunday home game morning starting around 7am to go with him to the game. I'd say no, he'd offer to buy me beer, I'd say no, he'd offer to buy me food, I'd say no, and finally he'd agree to drive my car both ways.

So for a lot of the next 4 years I was at Patriots games, and had nice tail gates on the old grass lots with a bunch of his Natick buddies, and then we'd get in to the game and many times I'd have my own row. Some games were so empty and boring I'd lay down on those awful metal benches and sleep off my hangover.

Even with the success of Parcells and Bledsoe and the SB appearance in 1996, Not much changed until Belichick and Brady.

Now all these fans are suddenly football experts, condescending know-it-alls that tell you how football should be played and they've all been "Patriots fans for life".

It's such bullshit and absolutely annoying, and non-Patriots fans have every right to hate them (sports hate of course, not real hate).

I cannot wait for the Brady/Belichick era to end and the days of pumped and jacked Pete Carroll to return or even better the Dick Macpherson or Rod Rust era part deux.
What a crock or shit.

Everything you said is true...

Plus...

They also think football didn't exist before 2001. If you mention any accomplishment before the Patriots took 40 years to win a championship it doesn't count.

They constantly think they'd have 7 Super Bowls if it weren't for "two lucky catches". They don't look at their own good fortune.

They only want to brag about all their success and don't have a sense of what a real bad season is.

They are obsessed with Tom Brady.

They rub their success in your face constantly.

They can't lose enough for me. I cannot wait until they are terrible again.

It's all part of the plan.

See, first he signed a contract for much lower than market value. Pats got some extra salary cap room while Brady could look like the team-first guy willing to sacrifice dollars for wins. Some people would say that his wife's money is what really allowed him to do that, but really it was the unwritten part of the contract that let his business partner set up shop at the complex and bring in the extra dough that more than made up for the lower contract. But then the QB threw his weight around with the backup and got Bill mad at him, and the coach threw the quack out the door, causing a bit of embarrassment. So how do he and his fake doc get some of the good kind of attention back on their stupid wellness plan? How 'bout they concoct some kind of mysterious hand injury that would knock out the average all star QB, but a few days later is conquered by avocados and he is good as new leading his team to another Super Bowl? Brilliant!

Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Its not hard to see. By February the Pats will probably have 6 Super Bowl wins. The Giants proved to be their kryptonite by beating them not once, but twice.
But the Patriots have lost in the playoffs to other teams
pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 5:14 pm : link
they lost in the championship round, and the divisional round and even the wild card round.

so saying the only team to beat them in the SB in the Brady/Belichick era is the Giants and that in some way makes the Giants special is silly.

The Broncos beat them twice in the AFC Championship game. And more in Denver.

The Ravens beat then at least twice in the playoffs, once in the conference championship, once in I believe the wild card round.

So to get some satisfaction or validation for your perceived Giants legacy by having the Patriots win more Super Bowls is in your own mind (IMO).

Others are free to seek that validation, personally, I do not need it or think that way.

I'd disagree.
Pats fans came out as soon as Kraft bought the team, that's what changed things. Pre Kraft there were like the Giants in the 70s, and we give ourselves passes.
It wasn't primarily Kraft buying the team
pjcas18 : 1/19/2018 11:15 pm : link
mostly it was Parcells that gave them some relevance. It was something like the biggest increase in season ticket sales in their history when Parcells was signed as HC.

Bledsoe helped too. Led the league in jersey sales I believe one year.

but still nothing like you see now.

In 1998, after Kraft had owned the team for a while, he threatened to move the team to Hartford, in fact he signed an agreement with the city, and the whole area was apathetic to it. finally though at the last second he agreed to build in foxborough, paying for the stadium himself with the state only paying for infrastructure enhancements.

At that point, in 1998, if they had moved to Hartford it wouldn't have been a big deal.
