Following up initial @josephperson report of mutual interest, source tells @SportingNews that Thomas McGaughey expected to become new @Giants special teams coach. I'm told McGaughey was confident enough about getting the gig that he turned down an ST job elsewhere Per Alex Marvez

"We had a bad bottom roster and thats where ST guys come from"
"We don't draft well in late rounds"
"His units were up and down over the years"
"Yeah but remember how big STs played during the NFC Champ game in SF"
"How can you blame Quinn because his guys can't (fill in the blank)"
"NFL rules dont allow for enough practice time to focus on Special Teams"
anything I missed?
Hey Boss -- looks like you may have to dial back your worst fears

You forgot "He has no talent to work with." The Giants give pro bowl ST player Dwayne Harris 17 million and he comes to the Giants and his stats instantly decrease. We have the best LS in terms of making plays down the field. We have had several good ST players on this team during Quinn's tenure yet ST's were never a strength. The only players that seemed to perform well here were Josh Brown and Robbie Gould who were already established NFL kickers.

Hmmm kinda like you with our QB...pot meet kettle...
I don't want to see Rosas released yet. Let's see how he does over the off-season. The Giants need to bring in a proven veteran to compete with him though. Take a look around the league and you will find several kickers who struggled early in their careers only to turn into good kickers. Rosas has a very talented leg and the Giants need a second kicker anyway for training camp.
hehehe -- Eric's gonna ban you

rosas has a big leg but terrible aim. i can't remember the giants having a worse kicker in my lifetime.. rookie HC who was OC on a losing team for 2 years, trading up to draft a third string QB in the 3rd round, going with a rookie kicker over a proven vet, drafting garbage at OL and insisting on NOT looking for upgrades.. this organization certainly had a curious approach to "win now" mode, with an aging MVP QB..
glad the ship has been righted but im still bitter about all of the braindead decisions these past 6 years.
Then Rosas misses a 33 yard field goal wide Left and we go scoreless.
This team deteriorated in all phases this past year.
At seasons end - this may be the worst Giants team I’ve ever seen.
Change from top to bottom is very much needed.

giving Quinn a pass, and I remember who some of you are. Some of my favorite excuses...

FFS they didn't trade up for Webb. This isn't the first time you've said this, either.
The final element of this disgraceful season that needs to be purged is Spags. Folks, if Spags sticks around after the embarrassing 16 games of half hearted defensive play his unit turned in this past season then you can be sure that Quinn gifted his blackmail photos to Spags. Nothing else could explain keeping around these idiots.

The last time this was mentioned on a thread, not sure if it was the same guy but I’m assuming it was, I specifically asked him to provide details of what the Giants traded to move up for Webb. Of course he disappeared and never answered. I’m sure he will not respond here either and just keep regurgitating the same garbage in other threads.
He’s been a failure at his job. That’s the bottom line
Why do you think this? I’d love to hear how you can possibly defend Quinn and the job he’s done....
The school argument is pretty irrelevant for a kicker though. And you're completely wrong on the "no competition" thing. There was a very good kicking competition in camp.
What? Show me one other coach who had an extra point, field goal and punt all blocked in the same game? How about making an adjustment after the 1st of those?
I've never seen that happen in any game including High School and he should've been fired that night. He deserved all the criticism thrown his way. It's the big leagues and he got paid to coach. It wasn't Pee Wee football where he volunteered for helping out.
It was Mike Nugent, a veteran kicker, who was perfect in preseason and so was Rosas. The right decision was keeping the younger player with the bigger leg for kickoffs.
