Predictions for Championship Sunday?

Dave in PA : 1/21/2018 12:38 am
Pats win, I don’t care if Brady is one handed or not. Now the really intriguing game is the Eagles Vikings. No matter how much I try to convince myself the Vikings defense is going to stifle Philly, I just think the home field advantage is such a huge boost that it gets the wildly mediocre Eagles team over the hump somehow. Both quarterbacks are capable of sabatoging their respective teams, but for some reason I just think Philly comes away victorious. I work in Philly BTW so I have to put up with this nonsense. Hopefully I’m wrong
I have no clue why

But i have a feeling it's Jags vs Vikes.

That's what I'm hoping for.
Jags vs Vikes

would be ideal but probably not likely. Eagles vs Pats is nearly a worst case scenario Super Bowl for me, and that’s what I imagine will happen
Pats
Big Rick in FL : 1/21/2018 1:25 am : link
are going to beat the Jags. Although I hope I'm wrong.

The Vikings are going to wipe the floor with Philly.

You think the Eagles are going to beat the Vikings? Foles is going to get abused by the Vikings defense. If Steve Sarkisian wasn't a terrible OC the Falcons would have beat the Eagles. I really don't even think the Eagles keep it close. Vikings by at least 10. Coach Shurmur is going to abuse the Eagles DBs.
New England 27, Jacksonville 16 and Minnesota 17, Philadelphia 16

AFC:

Pats win 27-16 thanks to Dion Lewis and Rob Gronkowski, both of whom can present serious problems for the JAX D. Jacksonville struggles vs. the run and just allowed 10 catches to Steelers TE Vance McDonald last Sunday. McDonald is solid but no Gronk (no one besides Travis Kelce in in his league, obviously).

I don't think the Pats wideouts get anything going against shutdown corners Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye, but Lewis and Gronk will take care of business as they did vs. TEN.

I think Leonard Fournette will be good, but not great, and that the Jags offense will be able to move the ball but settle for field goals against a Pats D that is top 5 in scoring defense and bottom 5 in yards allowed.

NFC:

Vikings win 17-16. I see them jumping out to an early lead thanks to some big plays from Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs; they are going to give Eagles CB Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby problems all night.

Not sure the MIN running game gets going against Fletcher Cox and a tough Eagles D-Line, however. They are ranked first in fewest running back yards allowed per carry according to Football Outsiders.

I think we see some unsung heroes emerge for PHI, namely RB Corey Clement. To be honest he might be the best running back on the roster. Has a lot of juice and was very efficient this year with his opportunities (4.3 yards per carry, 6 TD on 84 touches).

That being said--and this is very subjective, admittedly--but the Vikings have a team of destiny feel about them right now. I guess that's what happens when you have a walkoff 61-yard TD in the playoffs. Just have a feeling that they pull this one out too.
I wish the NFC game was played first

The winner of that game dictates who I want to see win the AFC. Philly cannot be allowed to win the Super Bowl, and anyone who trusts Blake Bortles not to turn back into a pumpkin on the NFL's biggest stage is crazy.

If Minnesota wins, I'd want Jacksonville to bet New England. But if it's Philly, I'd be pulling for Brady to avert catastrophe.
Hard to pick between Philly and
joeinpa : 1/21/2018 6:28 am : link
Vikings. Case Keenan in Philadelphia against that pass rush could be rough. But If the Vikings don t turn ball over I say they win.

I think Jags have more of a chance than most do because of their defense, but expect New England to win at home.

I agree with an earlier poster (mcgourty I think ) that Dion and Gronk
wgenesis123 : 1/21/2018 7:53 am : link
are big factors today. The Jags need to hit Brady hard and separate him from the ball. Tipped balls could be huge also. The wind and cold may not be factors in the Eagles home field advantage. That to me is advantage Vikings. We will see how good that re-built Minn. O-line is, they will be tested tonight. Case Keenum needs to bring his lucky horseshoe and avoid that big turnover.
This spot is too big for Jacksonville. Pats win.

Vikings win a close, low scoring affair against the Eagles. Something like 17-13.
Hoping for Vikes and Jax
Sec 103 : 1/21/2018 9:04 am : link
would be happy with Pats and Vikes though
I think the Pats
Allen in CNJ : 1/21/2018 9:13 am : link
destroy the Jags and the Vikes win by a hair with a last second field goal or something to that affect
Defense wins championships

Just saw this. Rankings of points per game (defensively) for the 4 remaining teams:

Vikings - 1
Jags - 2
Eagles - 4
Patriots - 5

Looks like good weather at both stadiums, but I expect two low scoring games.

Patriots 17 - Jags 10
Vikings 16 - Eagles 13

Have a feeling the Eagles are going to roll
j_rud : 1/21/2018 9:48 am : link
in a 27-10 kind of game that's never really close. They run the ball and shut down the run. The secondary is weak outside of Jenkins but the pass rush won't allow Minny to take advantage. Praying I'm wrong...
Diggs/Thielen
WillVAB : 1/21/2018 10:07 am : link
Vs Eagles secondary is the most substantial mismatch of the slate. Vikings take care of business.

Pats-Jags is tough to call. I love JAX d but I don’t trust Bortles and he’s gonna have to make plays to win.
I would hate if

I am going to have to route for the Pats, just to have Philly lose later on.

All that matters is someone rains on Philly's parade doesn't matter when or by whom but the Pats are the best shot at beating Philly so I am routing for Pats and Minn, so It will likely be Jax vs Philly in the bowl.
Eagles (yuk)

If Minn wins they will be tough to beat at home

i'll go to the movies that night.
I am not excited about any of the games today.
fredgbrown : 1/21/2018 11:37 am : link
New England vs Eagles super bowl is not interesting in the least bit to me. NE vs Vikings is even less interesting. I don't think the Jags have a chance against the Pats Coughlin or not. We shall see i guess.
Ok what planet are the eagles "widely mediocre???"
djm : 1/21/2018 11:55 am : link
They went 13-3 and won a playoff game. Philly is very good. No matter how much you might hate them you can't deny they have had a very very good year.

I have been touting Jacksonville all month long so i can't stop now. I have also long said only a fool would bet against the pats in a big game. I'd take the points today. Hate predicting the pats lose but fuck it, that Jacksonville team has a lot of bad ass players. If they can take away Gronk with (Ramsey) one on one coverage this is going to be very interesting.
I have a difficult time seeing the Vikings score more than 13 points

I feel the same way. Fuck it JAX wins.

Philly is built the way the Giants were 07-08ish. Very, very, good DL and very good OL. Foles sucks but Philly has a very good roster.
Minn - NE
torrey : 1/21/2018 2:42 pm : link
I want to see the presumed new head coach of the Giants show that he knows how to beat a division rival. Hoping for a 10-14 pt winning margin

I think the Jags - NE game is going to be close relating to the cut on Brady's thumb. I would take the points with the Jags.

However, I stunk the place up in my football pools all year, and I am 1-7 picking the playoffs, so what do I know?
