Shurmur will complete what figures to be somber exit assignments as the Vikings offensive coordinator and then make way for New Jersey, where he will meet with Giants officials Tuesday morning to finish up the details of a contract that will make him the team’s 18th head coach. An introductory press conference is expected on Tuesday.

Agree. But after the NYDN being ***holes, seems Gettleman is talking to NYP a lot...

DeFilippo was mentioned a couple of weeks ago as a potential option. I am not sure if that was legit or just speculation though. I will be watching closely to who he brings as OL coach. Russ Grimm or Tony Sparano would be fantastic.

The Cardinals are looking to bring in DeFilippo for a second interview this week.

Shurmer’s offense

I am new to the Board but a 60 year Giants fan. As I watched yesterday’s Vikings/Philly playoff, I thought I was seeing Shurmur use almost a clone of the MacAdoo non-offense. Behind 3 touchdowns and nothing in the playbook beyond 10 yard outs??? I’m no analyst and wonder about other’s opinions.

That team was built on a defense that didn't show up. They had a chance going into the 2nd half, but they let Philly go right down and score.

Philly forced them to do things offensively that they didn't want to do, just by running up the score.

Minny got that far on an offense composed of complete nobodies, with a completely rebuilt o-line.

Shurmur can do more with less, which why he's an excellent choice.

I feel like he was severely limited by his QB. Keenum played well this year. He throws a nice ball, especially in the short to mid-rang. However, he doesn't make complex decisions when it comes to coverages, doesn't have a big arm to get the ball in a tight window downfield when the defense knows he has to pass downfield. Even the interception...a lot of savvy QB's would feel that pressure, pull the ball back, re load and then fire...you saw Foles do that multiple times. Keenum just isn't that good.
RBs
Sammo85 : 1/22/2018 11:45 am : link
Get dinged up and run down throughout the year. You need a three back rotation now in the NFL.

So signing McKinnon wouldn’t preclude you from drafting one, since it’s no certainty with a new staff that Gallman or Darkwa will be viewed as essential fits.

Getting a guy like McKinnon lessens the need factor or the concern about depth right off the bat. Remember what Gettleman said about using free agency to fill what you can in regard to what you need and then go to the draft.
Clocks ticking for Slades Belichick prediction
mfsd : 1/22/2018 11:47 am : link
But even if there was some truth to that chatter, I can’t imagine the Giants would put Schurmur off 2 more weeks for the pipe dream chance they could give a bunch of draft picks to the Pats for Bill.
Does this really have to be explained??

They had to throw underneath routes and outlets because the safeties were playing deep. Even then, they still took shots. They had 12 throws over 20 yards in the second half. while McKinnon got the lion's share of receptions, they made quite a few attempts to thielen and Wright. Even Diggs was targeted on 4 balls over 20+ yards.

Your nuts, his game plan sucked yesterday. We get to see the same thing twice a year for the next 3 until he is fired too. Del Rio as the DC, we are turning into the Jets. I hate this hire. At this point would rather have McDaniels.
Gary Myers can't wait to find out for sure.

So he can croos out "Tom Coughlin" and pencil in Shurmur's name in his "Giants need to fire coach" column.

You’re assuming McDaniels was a viable option. There’s been plenty of chatter McDaniels wanted more personnel control that the Giants and DG would give him

For Christ's Sake, you just derided the Del Rio hire as becoming the Jets as if the guy hasn't been a successful coordinator.

I doubt you know jackshit about what you saw yesterday, specifically regarding adjustments or a lack thereof.

So, the Pats made halftime adjustments but waited until the 4th quarter to break them out??

Even the most savvy of fans would have a difficult time calling out adjustments that have been made.

Really? I can tell that the Patriots decided to slow down the pass rush with different formations and that they were able to get their RB's and WR's being covered by LB's and S's. They used the Jags aggressive D to their advantage in the 2nd half. Even the trick play where Jack caused the fumble they were trying to use the Jags aggressive D and pursuit of the ball to their advantage. They kept helped chip more off the plays on the DE's. The Vikings even down 17 came back out with screens , 7 yd slants and TE curls. The throw on the 1st drive to Rudolph where he was able to get him lined up on the LB with no S by shifting the RB out was a solid call. The problem is Murray is not a pass receiving back so when they did it again it fooled no one. He needed to find a way to get the Philly D to open up space like the Jags were able to do with some of their play action passing. Vikings run game is not as good as Jags so play action pass was not going to work as well. He needed to set up more 1 on 1 coverage and try to stretch the field with some deeper throws. The throws short and over the middle just played right into the Philly D game plan. He never adjusted and the got waxed because of it. The D was on the field too long they were spent and Philly took advantage. Sound familiar to how we played this year.

ran into a buzzsaw yesterday and the moment was too big for a lot of their players. It happens.

Shurmur did an amazing job even getting this offense all the way to the doorstep. He should be commended. If Keenum doesn't throw that pick 6 and they don't fumble in Eagles territory, it's a completely different game and possibly a different result.

I don't think you are giving the Eagles enough credit on either side of the ball.
The biggest issue for the Vikings
jvm52106 : 1/22/2018 2:29 pm : link
yesterday was the way the won the week before and then the way they started the game yesterday. To be down like they were and have basically all hope lost and then a "miracle" debacle happen, the emotional upswing must have been incredible.

Now, you start off the championship game and go right through Philly. I think it was Joe Buck who said it was good to see the Vikings off to a great start avoiding that mental letdown from the week before. BUt, when they had the ball again and were moving but then threw the pick 6, all emotion seemed gone. They seemed unable to overcome that glitch and really seemed mentally fatigued. The defense couldn't make a play at all. The offense was now having to make plays or else and couldn't do it...
