according to Myers/NYDN (I know, consider the source)...
"As Myers outlined in the piece, the Lions offer some distinct advantages with ownership as well as a general manager Bob Quinn, whom he feels comfortable working with.
According to a different report, Patricia didn't want to coach in a media fishbowl like the Giants provide, which is the reason he chose the Lions instead. Regardless of the reason, the decision has been made and some in New York are still frustrated and struggling to completely understand."

Every year, there's 2-3 really good teams, 2-3 really shitty ones, and a huge bulk of teams that with the right luck and circumstances rises above.
And keep in mind, a 50% turnover in playoff teams year to year is the norm, not the exception.
Just take this year for instance. Who thought Jax and Minny was going to be led deep by Keenum and Bortles? Who thought they'd be better than Seattle?
Being that married to a 9 year vet who has yet to even win a playoff game is a tough way to live.
Two independent people who work for NFL agents told me the search really ended once Shurmur was interviewed. It went that well. Look in the archives the day after the interview I posted it here.
These guys all talk to each other constantly to try to predict how things are going to shake out so they can advise their clients accordingly. It was common knowledge among the agents that Shurmur was the guy.
I mean how can it be that a guy like Myers whose job is literally to cultivate real relationships for info about the Giants can be so bad at it that a guy like me just falls into it and gets infinitely better information?
You and Peppers had it right all along. Many probably dismissed your contributions as they associate your handle with the Aaron Rodgers - Midwest Geigh Club Scene. But regardless, you were right all along.

I know I'm batting only around .500 around here with my contacts but they are legitimate.

Where do you think that Rodgers stuff comes from?
That devolved quickly into something else. I handled it poorly trying to prove a point that I eventually realized would never get through so I gave up on that.
I don't really concern myself too much with how people may view me here. I have a lot of unpopular opinions that differ from the BBI mob mentality but they are just about universally correct in retrospect. It's tough being the one out on the island but so be it. I stand by anything I've ever said here.
We are totally biased about which is the better job. If I was in Patricia's shoes, I would choose the team that gave me the best chance to have early success. It's his first head coaching job, and if you don't win early perceptions can quickly change about you as a coach. The worst record the Lions have had in the last 5 years is 7-9 (twice). They have been 11-5 and 9-7 (twice) in that same span. The have been to the playoffs twice. And they have Matt Stafford, who will play his age 30 season next year and is a much better bet to win in the near term than either Eli or a rookie QB. To top it off he had the existing relationship with Bob Quinn.
He chose the better job, whether we like to think so or not.
This is false. The "widely reported" stories all sourced Myers, and several national sources were pushing back all along that Shurmur was still the guy to pay attention to. The NYG beat reporters are an echo chamber, in case you haven't noticed.
No, because Shurmur wouldn't be able to be hired today in that scenario.

Detroit is closer than we are right now, even if we just for the reason of Matthew Stafford.

I knew before the season that Jax had a playoff team, and that Minny was likely a playoff team as well, for reasons other than QB.
And they weren't necessarily better than Seattle. Their results were better than Seattle, but Seattle lost too much on that defense and the Jags and Vikings did not.
They lost Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Deshaun Shead, Nazair Jones, Malik McDowell, among several other contributors just on the defense, and they lost three of their starting O-line and couldn't keep a RB healthy all year. They still went 9-7. For what they lost for very significant parts of the season if not the entire season in some cases, winning 9 games was a big accomplishment.
But again, I really knew the Jaguars were going to be at the top of their division because of their defense and adding Leonard Fournette.
And I'm sure you knew the Bills and Titans were playoff teams while the Raiders and Texans weren't.
Or that the Rams were going to be a #3 seed and the Packers, Cards and Lions were missing the playoffs?
The point is that year over year without fail, 50% of the teams turnover in the playoffs. We are as apt to make the playoffs next year as Detroit and if the criteria is they are further ahead, well they had Stafford and good health this year and still missed the playoffs. Not sure how much closer they are.
Second, how would Myers have any inside with the Giants organization after the hatchet job he did with Coughlin? I'll bet the only sources he had were some Patriot writers and maybe smoke coming from Patricia's agent...who was using the Giants to squeeze as much power/cash from the Lions as he could get.
Everyone else in the world > Denny.

It just shows Patricia isn’t meant to be the coach here.
We've all heard the stories how this guy is a strange one. If he isn't prepared to deal wth the NY Press and scrutiny that comes with being the Giants HC then he truly wasn't the right hire for us anyway. IMO he'll come to regret it. The Giants are a Cadillac organization and you don't pass on driving a Caddy for a Subaru.
