NFT: Family friendly summer beach vacation ideas?

GiantCuse : 1/22/2018 3:39 pm
Hi BBI, I see these threads go up every so often figured I'd test the waters, try and find a good place to take our three kids (all under three years old). We'd be driving from Syracuse, NY

Looking for (in order of priority):
- Somewhere north of Cape May, NJ and south of Narragansett, RI
- Quiet and not crowded (we can go mid week if needed)
- Clean and warmish water, kids too young to swim so don't care about it being calm water
- Don't need a lot of stuff to do, fine just chilling on the beach
- AirBnB or hotels within walking distance to the beach

Thanks in advance!
guess we could go as far south as northern Delaware

Perfect hotel for mid week , perfect location

i've never stayed there because we usually go to Ocean City

but Rehoboth Beach looks like it meets your criteria. Really nice. And, if all you want is beach and someplace quiet, Bethany Beach looks nice too.
Ocean City, NJ

Is about as family friendly as you can get on the Jersey Shore.

We usually go to Ocean View DE, about 3 miles inland from Bethany Beach. The resort there has two outdoor pools, tennis courts, gym, 15 mph speed limit through the community so biking/skateboarding with the kids is good. Plus 27 holes of golf...what could be better?
It's about 1/2 way between Rehoboth and Ocean City MD. It's usually more cost efficient than the Jersey Shore and the kids LOVE it.
Bear Trap Dunes Resort - ( New Window )
This is great!

Thanks for all the recommendations, looks like some great options.
Long Beach Island

NJ or the island north of it (Barnegat Bay Island) which has Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, Ortley Beach, Lavallette, Normandy Beach and Pt Pleasant on it.
Beach Haven, Long Beach Island exit 63 on NJ parkway

quiet, upscale family beach town, Fantasy Island is a great amusement park for that age - small park with a lot of little kids rides, great beaches and water, not a day beach so only people renting or owning there go to beach so not crowded
Lavallette/Ortley beach NJ

great beaches, close to boardwalk, affordable
I hate when people do what I’m about to do...

It’s slightly outside of the limitations you gave, but if you extend your range southward just a few miles, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware is a really awesome and family-friendly beach destination.
I go to

Narragansett every year for a week. Been doing it for 2 decades now and I love it there. Total chill. If you're looking for something more commercial though, this isn't it.
I second Long Beach Island, especially Beach Haven or other areas

on the southern part of the island especially.

Also, I know it is farther south than what you mentioned, but you should really consider Ocean City, MD. Plenty of options, and you can either chill out and do nothing or do a lot of different activities, and you can get reasonably priced accommodations. LBI is very nice and closer to you, but more expensive.
Seaside Heights is family friendly?

Maybe if your family likes to hit all the bars on the boardwalk.

Almost every Jersey shore point is going to be busy over the summer, but I love LBI, and the northern part of the island is a little less crowded. Look for Loveladies, Harvey Cedars, or Barnegat.
